            You should not need this.
Have you connected the parts as my pic?

Sadly, my daughter is in TX, the friend i had that set up my comp 13 years ago is dead, and my neighbors wont be of any help. I have some things connected except the the things i will need to first disconnect the old comp. Another Q, is that little button on the top right the thing i push to turn it on? Will a light come on to say its on?

Power board? The front of the comp? Another Q, the cable that goes from the monitor to the comp looks exactly the same on both ends. Does it matter which end goes where?

Do you mean the surge protector? There are 2 spots available on that.

Can you plug the new compter into one and the monitor into the other?

If possible connect the new computer into the surge protector
Plug the monitor into the surge protector
                        Turn on
When it gets to the setup network part
Just disconnect the network cable from the old and connect to the new.
NO NEED TO POWER EITHER OF THEM OFF

would this be possible for a temp solution?

Are you saying leave my old comp on until the internet connection is needed on the new one? Its possible to do. One thing is its hard for me to move around quickly and get down on the floor alot to make all these connections. Would you be mad if we wait 1 more day so i can try and find someone to asist? If not i will rest up tomorrow as much as possible and 1 way or another i will get this done tomorrow. I can temporarily put the new comp on the floor and let it run and leave the old comp monitor on the desk until everything is done.

Take your time I am in no hurry
If you can find an able body to help that is fine.
Take as long as you need.
If you have someone to help then have them connect power and network to new computer and switch on.
If something is not looking right they can connect the network cable back to the old one for you.
                            And you are back online.

                            Correct
Once windows is loaded to the desktop screen shut it down and move old out new in
                            Take your time.
Just remember when it gets to the Let’s connect to the network stage just swap the network cable over from the back of the old
to the new. No need to power off the old or the new.
Network cables can be switched when computers are powered on

                                Do not know
I have not bought a new comp in the past 18 odd years
My guess is 1/2 to 1 hour.
I know one person who says he can reload in 10mins but it all depends on the computer itself.
