Samsung TV no sound after third Oculus Setup

Hello,

I have the following Problem:

Yesterday I got an Oculus Rift as a present. I installed it with no problem. Since my PC has only one HDMI slot, I had to use an Displayport to HDMI Adapter for my Samsung TV I use as a Monitor. Usually it is connected through the HDMI Slot.

Now I had to redo the Oculus Setup 3 times because of Sensor Tracking Problems. The first two times were okay, I could hear sound from both Oculus when I wear it and TV.

But on the third time today, while it installed my TV flickered a few times, and since then I don't get any sound from my TV anymore, while the Oculus still works. The Oculus headphones even make sounds from the PC which they didn't before. My TV also isn't displayed under "Manage Audio Devices" anymore ("show disabled/disconnected devices" is turned on). It doesn't matter if I plug the TV into the HDMI or the Displayport Adapter. Redoing the Oculus Setup also didn't work.

If someone could help me, that would be great! Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much, I hope so too. While I can enjoy the Oculus, I need my PC and it's sound for a Project I am part of, where I need to edit a Video. Sadly, I have no emergency Monitor / PC and know someone who does or who has the right programs I need.

Not being a gamer Oculus Rift is not something that I know much about I`m afraid so wont be much use here folks

Does the TVs sound work ok when not connected to the PC hardware.

Have you tried a Windows system restore point that is before the issue began.

I forgot to mention, I have Windows 7.

Yes, the TV itself makes sound just as before.

Do you mean the one under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Recovery? Sadly, the only point it has listed is from one hour ago, while my problem started earlier this morning.

It doesn't matter if I plug the TV into the HDMI or the Displayport Adapter.

Can you borrow an alternative and appropriate HDMI cable, the display adaptor can be ruled out for now because as you have mentioned the issue is present when connected directly to the HDMI port.

Do you mean simply try a different HDMI cable? I tried that, sadly it didn't help.

The strange thing is, the PC does show it as a monitor, but I can find nothing to even indicate that the PC recognizes the TV as something that can produce sound.

EDIT: I tried a clean install of my gpu driver, sadly it didn't help.

Sure, the Model Code is: UE40JU6050UXZG, Version Number: 02. The TV itself works as always, it makes sounds when I use the remote (both when plugged into the PC and unplugged).

Exactly. Everything is as always, minus the sound. And nothing changed on the TV itself, at least nothing I can see.

Do you see the following option anywhere in the TV settings set Edit Name to DVI PC to access video and audio content stored on the PC.

Being honest I am struggling with this as I am surprised that you got audio when using the DVI adaptor as you should have needed to connect a RGB/DVI/HDMI audio in cable.

I plugged a PS4 into my TV with HDMI, and it produces sound as usual. So I guess the problem solely lies with my PC.

I am sorry, but what do you mean with DVI? Isn't that a different connection type than HDMI and Displayport? If so, I haven't used DVI at all. I only ever used HDMI for my TV, and Displayport with a HDMI to Displayport Adapter since yesterday because I need the HDMI Port for the Oculus. Until today after the third setup, my TV produced sound on both HDMI and using the Displayport Adapter, until the flickering while reinstalling Oculus for a third time.

The Oculus Headphones do make sounds, though, from my normal work on my PC, not limited to Oculus Play. I don't remember them doing that before, but I am not sure. Other Headphones work as well, and are displayed under "Manage Audio Devices".

When using the source button on my remote, I can change the device type for the HDMI Port I use on my TV and change it to the type DVI PC, but it doesn't change anything.

Maybe If I force my PC to reinstall the drivers for the TV, make the PC "think" I connected the TV for the first time? Could that work?

Good idea now that you know that the TV and its HDMI ports are ok, can you post your video card brand and model name or number for us so we can look for the latest drivers for it.

Good idea now that you know that the TV and its HDMI ports are ok, can you post your video card brand and model name or number for us so we can look for the latest drivers for it.

Well, if you'd suggest to do a clean install of my GPU Drivers, I already tried that, it didn't work.

Nevertheless, I have a AMD Radeon R9 290, the latest driver is Version 17.7.2.

I did a clean install by downloading the latest update from the AMD Website and choosing Clean Install in the setup. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64

It didn't help. I did do it though while the Oculus and the TV were connected to my PC, don't know if that could have been an issue.

Otherwise, is there maybe a way to reinstall the drivers specifically for the TV? Or completely remove any trace of the TV on my PC, of course using a different Monitor? So that when I reconnect the TV on my PC, it's as if it is doing it for the first time?

Well, in the Radeon Settings it says:

Graphics Card Manufacturer
Powered by AMD

So if I understand it correctly it's made directly by AMD. The driver that I used is also the driver that Radeon Settings recommended to install.

Okay, I will connect my test monitor to the HDMI Port on my PC. If I understand it correctly, I then go to Device Manager, then right-click on Monitors and click "Scan for hardware changes"? Just so I know I understood you correctly. What do I then? What should I expect to happen?

Strange, this TV also does't produce any sound at all. So I guess it probably has something to do with the Oculus software, maybe?

I did the scan, nothing happened afterwards.

Something for you to take a look at here not suggesting that you purchase anything only to run the tool and see what it says.

I already did that test, it simply says my PC is Oculus Ready. As I said, I can use the Oculus Rift without Problems now. It is only the TV, and it only has the sound problem. It has it with and without the Oculus plugged in.

If I do that deinstalling the monitor, won't it immediately disable my monitor? Do I just restart my PC then, will it automatically recognize and reinstall my monitor?

So I go to Device Manager, then Monitor, then Generic PnP Monitor (that's how the monitor was always called there), then right-click and uninstall, then turn off and restart my PC, and then the PC does the rest?
