Hi, I’m having trouble with gaming on my pc.
I’m getting lag and stutter when playing online and offline. I find Fortnite tends to lag quite a lot when my son is playing it.

Other games only seem to stutter a bit such as apex legends.

I also have age of empires, when this is played the screen tends to skip and the sound cuts out every now and then. The same goes for playing battlefield 3 offline.

I’ve got all the drivers up to date. I have no other programs running at the same time.
I have a hard internet connection getting over 70mbps and also recently got a new router as the old one wasn’t working correctly. So that should rule out anything wrong with the internet.

It’s not the best pc as it’s only for my son who is new to gaming with a pc

These are the specs.
4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 ti
1Tb hard drive (No SSD)
16gb RAM
i7 2600 CPU
Windows 10
500w PSU
H61M-P31/W8 motherboard
AOC 144hz monitor

I’m quite new to the whole pc thing so please let me know if I’ve missed any important information off.

If anyone could suggest something for me to check or something that could improving the running of the pc I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Mat

So others can assist

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Thank for you replying to my issue.

I don't actually know what Power supply I have as I bought the pc ready built from a supplier. I am waiting for a reply to my message from them to find out what power supply it has. I don't want to open the pc as this might void my warranty should I need to send it back.

This is the link I got from speccy.

I’m afraid not. It was an eBay purchase. I was told by a friend who is into pc gaming that for the money it wasn’t half bad. And should be fine for the games my son wants to play. Mainly Fortnite. This is the eBay ad.

During shipping something may have come loose and just needs to be tightened.

Thank for the link unfortunately all that shows it that is a 500 watt PSU which should be sufficient if that is what is puts out. Some only put out less then what they state.

Avast Antivirus
Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

Avast was a really good anti virus now is is not all that best major memory hog. You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here

Then check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Thank you, I’ve done the tips you suggested. When your saying about something coming lose. Do you have one component In particular in mind? Or could it just be anything?

Lets see how things are running for now and other may have suggestions.

Could be anything power and or data cables are usually the issues that I have seen.

There are also the cards like RAM and Display that may just need re-seating.

Hello. I believe I might have found the problem.

I’ve just been onto my task manager to see if I had some apps running that weren’t necessary and all of a sudden the “Disk” went to 100% then dropped down again. It appears to have random spikes.

Have you seen this before?

Yes you may see random spikes like from time to time.

Some things load after the system has booted.

May have been the system or another software checking for updates.

Antivirus running an automatic scan.

How has the system been running since software has been removed.

It doesn’t really seem to have made a difference. I’ve contacted the place I bought it from and they’ve asked me to give them a call tomorrow. I’ve got 12 months warranty on so, so hopefully they will sort the issue out. It just might mean I have to send it back and be without the pc for a while.

I’ve had an update from the place I got the pc from. They’ve checked some stuff on the pc and it’s the hard drive that’s faulty. They’re fitting a new hard drive to it now.
