I wanted to updgrade old pc with ssd. It is dell optiplex 760
intel core duo
2x2gb ram
windows 7
I cleard the drive wich gave no effect.
I cloned the system to the new plugged ssd for which I bought sata power y plitter. Now hdd and ssd are pugged and ssd also is using sata cable form the disc drive.

I turned the pc off, I took out the hdd and I tried to boot the system but from now all I get is "configuring windows update" and its getting stuck on 35% or 100%

The safe mode is also stuck at that and trying to boot without ssd and back with hdd is the same.

I want to know if can even get it working back with hdd if the ssd is the issue.

Thanks for any help!

If you return the HDD to the PC does Windows boot normally?
Which program have you used to Clone the drive?
Is the SSD the same capacity as the HDD?

When I moved to a SSD I imaged the old drive using Macrium Reflect, then exchanged the drives, used their boot USB to reach the Macrium recovery environment then restore the image to the SSD.

Now I have normal boot with hdd.
I used macrium reflect to clone it.
SSD is smaller but enough to space the windows data

Did it missed something after I cloned the system?

Did you clone the entire drive or just C:
Is this a pre built (Dell, Alien, Hewlett-Packard) or do it our self system (you built it)

This would be the best time to preform a clean install this way any past issues are gone.

Probably not but there does seem to be problems cloning a HDD to a SSD. I read this problem too often on various forums.
Can you provide a screenshot from Macrium showing the partitions on the HDD & the SSD?

Thank you all for the replies!

I fixed it like this.

When I tried to boot from hdd after hours it went from 100% to "clearing" and I get to the desktop. I cleard the ssd again and cloned again without clearing the drive before it and it worked. For some reason its not a good idea to clear the drive before the cloning.

It can be closed but I don't know how to do it.
