That is 100% the way to go + you can do it how it should be done, see my canned info below for this;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

You should save to a separate USB stick any drivers that you are going to need.

Description: License Activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code:
hr=0x80004005

Speccy is telling us that the drivers were not installed in the correct order and that Windows was allowed to update before the correct drivers have been installed which as a consequence means that Windows has installed the wrong drivers.

I have clean installed and followed your instructions

The above suggests not, what drivers dis you install and from where did you get them.

I got them from the ASUS website, as thats my motherboard.

I downloaded them from here - https://www.asus.com/supportonly/prime h310m-r r2.0/helpdesk_download/

I've just realised, as I'm making this reply, that I've downloaded the drivers for the prime h310m-r not h310m-a. I am so sorry I overlooked this and just downloaded them as the two seemed so similar, I promise I'm not trying to waste time. - Instead of trying to fix this myself ill see what to do from you guys.

If that's not the issue, however, I don't know how windows downloaded the drivers first, as I did connect windows to Wi-Fi and it was downloading what it needed to, but once it finished, the first thing I did was install the drivers, which probably because they are the wrong ones they didn't install properly or however that works.

Once again i am so sorry

Plus, when you enter the new key you purchased, are you getting any messages that Windows is activated or not activated?

Do this again, open an elevated command prompt, type
Code:
 slmgr /upk
hit enter This will uninstall the current product key.
Then if no error, in the same prompt type
Code:
slmgr /ipk <your new legit product key>
Hit Enter. This installs new product key
In the same prompt type
Code:
 slmgr /ato
then Enter. This Activates Windows with new product key
Reboot and run the MTB again please.

When i entered the key during installation, it said the key was valid or something along those lines. It also says this on settings if it helps:

Other than that though, there has been no messages

I`m going to chime out and leave you with xRob who is more than capable of helping you with this, no need for two of us.

Before I go I will mention the following though, Windows 11 lets you block checking for updates as part of the installation procedure, you never told us what drivers you installed only where you got drivers from and that they were the wrong ones, my point being that there are no Windows 11 drivers for your MB so was wanting to check what you had downloaded etc, last but not least, your Windows activation errors are old but as a final check I would be happier if I saw a fresh Speccy url and corresponding MTB log from sometime tomorrow.

You have told us what the drivers are intended for but not the version or where you got them from.

I would be happier if I saw a fresh Speccy url and corresponding MTB log from sometime tomorrow.

Description: The previous system shutdown at 12:59:36 AM on ‎2/‎20/‎2025 was unexpected.

With the exception of the above things are looking good.

Can you shed any light on the above error as in were you using the PC and it suddenly turned off.

There is another minor niggle but it may sort itself out along the way while Windows is installing a future update.

I don't know to be honest, as whenever I use my pc, it never randomly turns off. Even when i leave it idle if i just wriggle my mouse, it turns on the pc back to where I left it off. I didn't get any blue screens or anything either. I fully turned my pc off around 1:40 AM, anytime before that I just left it idle, so I can't tell if it shutdown or not.

Well as you can see the PC turned off before Windows had been correctly shutdown, no harm once or twice but continuously it will corrupt Windows and the PC will be unable to boot.

Golden rules of computing, use a UPS and always close Windows properly before powering down the computer.

If no UPS, use a surge protected power strip and always turn off and remove from the wall socket when powering down for the day.

For Windows, don't use Hibernation or Sleep, set turn off screen and disk etc to Never, don't use a screensaver and in the case of a desktop PC always use the Windows Balanced Power Plan, never be tempted to use High or Ultra Performance which are meant for gaming type notebooks that have a discreet graphics chip that needs the extra power.
