hey
i need some help to know what happened to my pc . so basically i upgraded my pc before 3 or 4 month ago except my GPU GTX 980TI so everything was working fine . the problem happened to me i was playing a game and i left my room for 5 min i came back both of my screens was black and there is smell like something is burnt so i tried to turn on the pc everything was running but the gpu is not working and the fans is not spanning.

So i tried to plug another gpu in the same PCIe same thing fan not spanning and no signal the RGB was working so i tried to plug the new gpu in another PCIe slot and it worked and everything was fine so i took the new GPU away and plugged in the old GPU in the 2nd PCIe that was working . same problem there is no signal and the fans is not spanning so again i removed my old GPU was plugged in the 2nd PCIe and i tried to plug the new GPU that worked for me in the 2nd PCIe 2 min ago.

So after i tried that the 2nd PCIe is not working anymore with both GPU + i tried to use WIFI card same thing it's not working .

oh yeah and i have tried to test my old GPU 980TI in another PC . that PC refuse to fire up at all
so I want to know what happened to my pc what cause the problem. is my other parts safe?

Welcome to PCHF Hibird,

So after i tried that the 2nd PCIe is not working anymore with both GPU

Ouch, this suggests that the original GPU may have had a problem such as causing a short circuit and placing it in the second PCI-E slot may have resulted in the same damage to that.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) the second add on video card and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.

Welcome to PCHF Hibird,

it's custom build

CPU : i7-9700k
motherboard : gigabyte z390 aorus pro wifi
RAM : CORSAIR Vengeance RGB pro 16GB 2x8GB 3200mhz
PSU : aerocool strike-x army edition 800w
GPU : EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB HYBRID GAMING

the Red on's i have these parts for like 3 or 4 years ago the others parts all like new had them before 3 months ago + i never did any overclocking

PSU : aerocool strike-x army edition 800w

Wouldn`t use this brand of PSU anywhere near any computer let alone one with such high end components as what you have, you will find Aerocool on avoid lists like the one here and for a couple of reasons, poor quality, poor performance and their short warranty period, you would expect a Silver efficiency rated PSU such as the one that you have to be covered by more than a one year warranty, such a short warranty period shows how little faith a company has in their own product.

First thing we need to do is check to see if the MB is dead.

You will need a display that has a HDMI port for what I suggest, see if you are able to borrow a known good PSU that you can use for testing purposes, a 500W Bronze efficiency rated unit will do, physically remove the add on video card from the MB, swap in any replacement PSU, make sure that your RAM is seated correctly, connect your screen to the HDMI port on the MB, reassemble, test and then post back with an update for us.

actually i'm using the pc at this moment without the GPU everything is working fine so far

That is some good news at least, can I ask how long you have known that the computer would run ok without any add on GPU fitted and what is the brand and model name or number of the second video card that you tried in the board.

Got to ask, you do not still have the same PSU fitted do you,

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

oh sorry about that .
i was running the PC for the last 2 or 3 days without any problem + i was playing league of legends on it
yeah i'm using the same PSU
and the 2nd GPU i have tried is ( GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 Ti ) it's for my brother so i test it for like 10 min and i tried to run a game on it for like 5 min so everything was working fine before i plug my old GPU in the same PCI-e

No worries (y)

There is hope then that your MB is ok and that the reason why the RTX 2080 Ti would not work is because of the poor quality PSU that you have.

If there is no visible damage to the PCI-E slots on the MB it could be that the fan on the GTX 980Ti stopped working and the card overheated as a consequence, that may also explain what you could smell.

We should check to see if your PCI-E slots are detected, see Speccy info below.

Can I ask for now that you do not try any graphics card in the MB while you are still using the Aerocool PSU.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

rtx 2080 ti it was running before i plug the dead GPU .
so i was using GTX 980 ti on the first pci-e slot i tried rtx 2080 ti in the same slot it didn't work so i removed it and plugged it in the 2nd pci-e and it worked after i removed it and plugged the dead GPU in 2nd pci-e it didn't work and i have tried to plug again the rtx 2080 ti that worked for me before so it didn't work and i have tried to use WI-FI card on both pci-e slots the pc refuse to start up at all

here in this link it says i have i7-7700 and that is not true i have i7-9700K

I did read all of your previous info and so am aware of what transpired with what happened and with both cards but can I ask why and what Wi-Fi card you tried inserting in to the PCI-E slots, let us know this info and we can then move onto your Speccy url which shows a couple of things going on.

That is an old PCI-E x1 card, what slot did you try inserting it in.

here in this link it says i have i7-7700 and that is not true i have i7-9700K

Speccy can do that with some newer hardware but if you look closer it actually lists Specification: Intel Core i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz

Things of note in Speccy.

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance This is a form of overclocking that is known to cause issues, change it to Balanced in the Windows Power Plan, you really do not want to put any more load on the PSU.

Memory
Size: 16244 MBytes
Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 46 % You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load, this can be caused by too much voltage going to the memory slots.

MEMORY CONTROLLER: 2.768 V
+3.3V: 2.688 V
+5V: 4.596 V

-12V: -6.656 V
-5V: -7.360 V
+5V HIGH THRESHOLD: 3.763 V These voltages are all over the place and need to be properly checked.

i have tried to use WI-FI card on both pci-e slots the pc refuse to start up at all

for the WI-FI card i tried on both of them none of them worked

By the above do you mean you tried both of the PCI-E x1 slots, not being pedantic but we need to be sure that we understand your feedback correctly, we don`t want to risk making things worse by any misunderstanding.

If you know for 100% that the wireless card was previously working there are two possible explanations for the computer not booting up when the card was fitted. 1: A conflict between the card and the onboard wireless device. 2: A wireless device is listed in the BIOS as a boot option but the BIOS does not recognise the card.

Try, restoring the MBs default factory settings by removing the CMOS battery and leaving it out for a while, this would get rid of any possible bad settings that could be affecting the PCI-E slots, once this has been done, put the battery back in, reassemble, power up, reset the time and date etc then run Speccy to see what is reported for the PCI-E slots, if still reported as all being in use I suspect that slots may have been shorted out.

ok before everything . thanks for everything thank you to put some of your time in my problem
i will try to do it but how to do it exactly i mean like if i took the battery away do i turn on the pc without the battery if not how long do i keep the battery out before i install the battery again

You only need to keep the battery out for ten minutes or so and then replace it, you should not power up the computer with no battery in the board, please see the attachment that was included in my reply #16 and be sure to follow each safety step that is mentioned.

Getting late here so going offline soon, will check back tomorrow and meanwhile good luck (y)

You are welcome btw :)
