I have an idea, I know everyone is getting frustrated and need this thread gone. I am feeling pressured that I am doing stuff wrong and letting you guys down because I am going slow.
No not at all.
As we said we just need to know that you are still interested in trying to fix it.
I have done threads with over 500 replies.

maximize this computer with quality parts
What is your budget?

Back on page 1 Post #14 you have a pic but we cannot see the EMC can you write that down.

I am feeling pressured that I am doing stuff wrong
I am sorry you feel that way it is not my intention to pressure you. I am in no hurry.
But its not so easy when you do not know computers
We can try this as an external drive using your current ssd and a caddy + extra ram.
But first thing is your budget.

The EMC is 2429 I think.
No budget within reason. Any graphics card upgrade of any benefit? Just internet stuff and YouTube videos etc

No graphics upgrade
is not any easy thing to do.
That ram should work with your current ram depending on how much ram is installed.
I had one 2011 imac that ran on 20gb ram by just adding extra ram.
On my current 2011 imac it will only use 16GB. I suggest you try the 16GB with your current ram.
I use Samsung 870QVO 1 TB drives.

Are you going to install the ssd inside?
If yes then when you open the computer if it is dusty you can by a can of air to help clean.
DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner.

I am just going to buy the parts. I am having tough time deciding on SSD. are they all pretty much made at the same factories?

I suggest that you test now to make sure you are able to do internet recovery of the OS before your things arrive.
It should only take an hour or so depending on internet speed.
encase we have to prepare a bootable usb stick via ubuntu.
It will save time in the long run.
But it is up to you.

I had already took the computer down. I ordered the parts but might not do it for a couple months
I appreciate all your patience.
I really like this computer so I am definitely going to do it. Parts are coming now anyway
I hope you're here in a few months and maybe I can start new thread
will they delete this thread or can I still access it?
