Hi everyone. I joined to get help on older Apple computer but now I realize I don't think this forum is for Apples. I think it is an easy fix to those who know about computers but I don't know what to do with them.

Are there still savvy computer people that know about Apples here too?

What is the problem, and what is the model number? It should be an A followed by 4 digits (A1466, or A2685 for example)

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the help. Apology for the delay. I didn't realize I was getting responses. I need to probably adjust settings.
I have approx 2011 Mac that still serves my needs well. It's not supported anymore for yrs now and I guess I sort of tried to update and it got stuck in perpetual loop at start up I do not know how to stop. From what I looked up it seems like you are supposed to go into bios at startup but I tried like a million times and standing on my head and can't get to bios. Not sure I know what to do if I get there.
I have some photos I will try to upload. Please stand by and I hope some of you can still try to help. I feel like my computer is being held hostage 😡

It did this months ago... I got new computer and trying out Ubuntu! But I still want to use Mac and I need all the files on it!!

The first thing you need to do is get the files off.
Do you know anyone with a mac.
If yes
I would get them to make a bootable ubuntu for mac - No install required.
Boot the mac and then recover your files.
Then we reinstall the os High Sierra.
There are 2 ways to do this.
1) have the person with the mac to download the High Sierra DMG from the app store & create a bootable usb.
2) Try recovery mode.
 
Also have you tried safe mode?
  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
  2. Log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

I don't recall safe mode working but I can try again. I could be wrong
I do not know anyone with a Mac.
Am I able to make a bootable Ubuntu for Mac on my Ubuntu computer? Or do you need another Mac to do bootable Ubuntu?

I suppose you do not have a time machine backup.
You could try recovery mode BUT I am not 100% sure of data recovery.
It should keep your files if you do not erase or format your drive.

Might be your only option.

gosh, I thought this wouldn't be hard? should I take it to a professional so I don't mess it up?
 
I never really did anything. Its not as simple as getting to bios and stop the cycle of it trying to update itself?
