Yeah I tried that but it doesn't work they are greyed out when I try to delete them and when I right click my primary partition it doesn't give me the option to extend it.
Okay I'll give those a try and update tonight.Did you also try minitool partition wizard. The partitions maybe locked? You may even need to do it from a boot disc, Minitool used to have one but I dont know if its free anymore. If it isn't try Aomei partitition
I tried both those programs but niether gave me the ability to delete those two partition and I couldn't extend my primary partition because it's gpt and not a basic partition.Any updates for us?
I removed the the D drive and my laptop wouldn't boot, it said please install a device with an OS on it. This makes no sense though, I installed Windows on my SSD so why would it make a difference if I removed the other HDD? The only thing I can think of is it's because that EFI partition is on it. So what should I do now?Well if you have a look at your disk management you'll see your boot drive is 1 instead of the usual drive 0, not the end of the world but not right either. Due to the way the O/S's and drives have been changed around a mess has been created. Recommended earlier that you remove/disconnect the D drive and see if the pc still boots ok. If the pc is still ok take the disc out and reformat it externally.
Anyone else got any better ideas?
Backup should be already in place.
***, I was afraid I'd have to do that. What a pain in the @$$. I'm going to have to mull this over for a while. I'll have to do it this weekend, I am really not looking forward to doing this but I know I have to get it straightened out. I'll update you late Saturday.Would suggest reinstall of Windows. Suggest post 7 explains the mess.
do you know of a free program that I could use to backup all my applications so i don't have to reinstall them one by one. I Googled it and Easeuse came up but the want like $80.00, I need a free program. Or does Windows have that built in in there backup program already, and if so how do I do it?Would suggest reinstall of Windows. Suggest post 7 explains the mess.
Okay so something is screwed up. I backup all my files and am using the Windows Media Creation Tool which I just created, and this is the message I am getting when I try to install Windows, oh and I can't retrieve my old installation because I already formatted the partition and it's saying that there aren't any restore points on the drive. So now what, am I screwed?Would suggest reinstall of Windows. Suggest post 7 explains the mess.
Unless the programs are Portable, meaning that no installation was necessary originally, you will HAVE to reinstall your programs.do you know of a free program that I could use to backup all my applications so i don't have to reinstall them one by one.
Yes. What I did was first I disconnected the D Drive and reformatted and deleted all partitions and installed Windows on my SSD. Then after I finally got everything up to date on that, I removed my SSD, and put my D Drive back in. I tried to format and delete the partitions on the D Drive using the Windows ISO but it wasn't working, so I used diskpart, which seems to have worked fine. I think my SSD has all of those recovery partitions becuase it took me three tries before Windows would install and not mess up. Unfortunately I didn't think to reformat or delete the partitions in between the three installs becuase I didin't know it was adding another recovery partition evertime I did a install. I think I may be able to use disk part or the Windows ISO to delete two of those partitions, the only problem I have is I don't know which partition is the newest. Because that would probably be the one I would want to keep, right?Did you follow the earlier instructions and remove ALL partitions on both drives before disconnecting the drive you wish to have as D drive, doesnt look like it?
