So you think that the GPU is not broke? Would a better PSU gain me something?

Sorry DrunkBlood but I cannot recall how long ago it was that I first suggested you try and get the GPU tested and now that it has been confirmed what the problem is it reinforces what I have been suggesting.

The crux of it is, the GPU will not work with a 500W PSU, this has been proven by the problems that you have had, to test the GPU a quality brand 750W PSU is required, you do not have such a PSU so you either need to get the card tested elsewhere or get yourself an appropriate 750W PSU, you have no other options.

It is just fortunate that you chose a good brand of PSU as a rubbish brand would have most likely gone bang and took everything else with it.

So my steps are now to respond to the new MSI support e-mail and ask them wether they can test it. They are asking me to run Windbg and send them their analyze results.

Knowingly continuing to use the GPU with a PSU that does not meet the MSI requirements is asking for trouble, problem that you have now is the fact that you know what the issue is, if you send MSI the info that they have requested they will only use the same Windows debug software that I use and they will likewise recognise that it is not driver related.

I am surprised that MSI have not yet asked for the PSU details.

I gave them their PSU infos in my first request. I am currently not using the system we are troubleshooting. I have an old backup laptop running Linux.

Hmm, I`m surprised that they have not jumped on the PSU info tbh.

You cannot do any more than wait on MSI or bite the bullet and upgrade the PSU I`m afraid.

Yea, I am waiting for a response and I think that they might be a bit overwhelmed with many staying at home.

Aye, most unfortunate times, you have at least had a response from MSI which is a +

Got a response today saying that they do not have the means to test my GPU and I should contact a specialist retailer.

That stands to reason tbh, remote assistance tends to be software related such as Microsoft looking at Windows problems etc.

Can I ask what you plan on doing, I have an idea, it is a bit cheeky but imo the ends justify the means

I think my plan is now.
                        1. Get the GPU tested and assess wether the GPU is RIP or not.
GPU is RIP: get a new GPU suitable for my PSU
GPU is still ok: get a new GPU with atleast 750W

No worries, the edit limit of five minutes is not something that I’ve seen on any other forum and it was apparently put in place to stop spammers.

Question for you, depending on the answer I may have another suggestion for you to add to your plan/s.

How difficult and how long will it take to get your GPU properly tested.

I do not know when I can test the GPU. I do not have the setup and in Corona times I do not know wether the test counts as a service such that they are open in my country.

This is budget dependant, what about ordering an appropriate Gold efficiency rated 750W PSU online, testing your GPU, if still the same problem, return the PSU as an unwanted birthday gift to get your cash back and then RMA the GPU, if the GPU works as it should, look for a buyer for the present 500W PSU.

Check any return shipping costs first before doing the above though.
