Go ahead and download SeaTools for Windows.
Install it and run it. Youβll be greeted with a drive list. Go ahead and select the drive and go to Basic Tests > Short Drive Self Test. If it passes, move on to Short Generic. If that passes, run Long Generic. Note that Long Generic will take an hour or so, so run it overnight.Comment

when I run the program, I get a βbad dataβ error. It allows the program to start if I click continue on the error message, though no drives are listed after it starts. I clicked rescan, and the program stops responding a couple of minutes after it begins scanning for drives.
When I went back to redownload and try again, I noticed that the list of compatible OSs only lists up to windows 8, not 10. Might that be causing a problem?Comment

Well, thatβs certainly not good. Though, if the OS is corrupted, could that be fixed by reinstalling windows 10? That would certainly be easier than moving my data to a new drive which I would have to buy, if the one Iβve got is circling the drain.Comment

Just finished reinstalling windows 10. first the bad news.
My power went out while it was installing, which corrupted the installation progress. The only way I was able to fix the problem was by formatting my hard drive, so I literally lost everythingβ¦Iβm still really ****** about that.
The good news? The installation after the format went smoothly.
Now, over the next month or two, Iβll be searching for all the programs/files I lost to redownload them.
It seems to be working fine now, but I did just now finish with the install, so if my problem is still there, it may happen today or a few days from now. But seeing as how I ended up wiping my drive clean, I really hope the issue is gone. So at this point, Iβm assuming the problem is gone. And if the problem continues after wiping the slate clean, Iβll assume that the hard drive itself is causing it.Comment
