    No, it sounds done to me. If the OP cannot access it via a Linux boot disk, then the only other option would be to take the drive to a recovery specialist.

        I used Disk Drill to rescue the files; had to use diskpart to enter attributes, the drive was read only. Formatting as I type this. Looking for a new mobo and CPU now I guess - maybe even a new case. Bought a new cooler for my old cpu as it has been running rather hot lately.
        @PeterOz I have used a solder iron before; did a few mods here and there, recapped a psu.

          If you got you data off then no need to use a solder iron.
          If you need data of a disk and the heads have not crashed you can replace the board.
          Desolder the hdd bios chip and install on the new board.

            @PeterOz I thought you were going to suggest a fix for a faulty case usb front port
            @xrobwx71 thanx
            @Rustys thanx
            and thanx to anyone else I’ve missed for your help. Think this is closed now. I have bought a founders edition Graphics card today, will be buying a new Ryzen chip, and new mobo for it, jumping ship from intel to. New cpu fan to be installed on the old CPU, might reinstall windows as well. According to Real Temp my cpu is staying at a reasonable temperature, but a new coolermaster fan and heatsink couldn’t hurt.
            P.S. This is a great help site.
