    I have removed the USB cables. The CPU is showing 96% usage when I use 7z; with the PSU equally showing very hight usage. I put a water cooler on the CPU a number of years back. Maybe I put the fan in the wrong way about. I read the advantages of putting a water cooler fan to blow or suck air; maybe it needs replaced.

      Try winrar - free trial instead of 7zip
      WinRAR - the data compression, encryption and archiving tool for Windows that opens RAR and ZIP files. Compatible with many other file formats.

            Are you just wanting to retrieve the data off the drive?

                  Try using a live version of Linux from a USB drive. No need to install.

                  That should be able to read the drive where you can get your if not some of your personal data.

                  Linux Mint or Ubuntu are some of the easiest to use that I have seen.

                  Linux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.

                  Ubuntu is the modern, open source operating system on Linux for the enterprise server, desktop, cloud, and IoT.

                          Couldn’t mount the HDD; unknown error. I’m pretty sure one of my front PC USB 2 is faulty.

                            Have you tried all of the usb ports?

                                Have to agree the drive does sound like it is done.

                                @xrobwx71 have any more suggestion?
