No matter but it has definitely gone from dual to single channel and if you have not moved it you are lucky that the computer is working at all.

The RAM should be in the two blue slots.

A factory reset of Windows does not affect your RAM at all so that is ruled out.

Hmm well it does know it’s there so I’m not sure why it’s changed.

I’ve been moving everything about to clean. Even pulled the CPU itself at one point (I now realise I probably shouldn’t have) but didn’t clean it or touch it in any way and put it back.

This could be useless information I’m giving you but I’m just trying to remember what I’ve done to it in the past week.

Are you saying that you removed the CPU but did not clean off the old thermal compound with rubbing alcohol and then correctly reapply a fresh amount of something like Arctic Silver 5.

Yes that sounds about right :ROFLMAO: the fan had a black clip to hold it in places so I wasn’t sure if that paste mattered or not.

That is why your cooling fan is going flat out, cross your fingers that permanent damage has not been done, the problem with the memory could be down to this

What I use and have done for years.

Nail varnish remover/acetone. rubbing alcohol for cleaning off the old compound and no scraping else you will scratch the surface of the CPU/heatsink.

No need to remove the CPU from the socket either, less chance of damaging anything that way.

Sorry guys forgot to post my update. Got the paste. Good news is the RAM is back to dual channel. Bad news is the fan is still sounding crazy loud. I tried to remove and apply the paste using the pea method but still sounds the same. Running games at 120 FPS for about 10 seconds then I get a couple of seconds where it goes to 2 FPS and repeat so it’s pretty unplayable. Time for a new cooler?

Might try to remove and apply the paste again and give it one more shot.

Did you properly clean off the old compound as was suggested.

Restart your computer and check the temperatures/voltages in the BIOS, no screenshot is required just make a note of the temperatures, the DRAM voltage, the +3.3V, +5V and the +12V rails on the PSU and post them with your next reply.

Yeah I watched YouTube vids on how to do it. Took me ages.
Okay according to the BIOS we have:

                          Dram voltage: 1.500
                          3.3 voltage: 3.288
                          5 voltage: 5.014
                          12 voltage: 11.891

                          CPU temperature: 45 degrees
                          MB temperature: 24 degrees

                          Any other information you require?

The +12V is a bit low but the other readings look ok, keep in mind though that the readings are not conclusive in the BIOS as the computer is under the least amount of load.

Question, you have had the heatsink off so will have needed to disconnect the CPU cooling fan from the header on the MB, when you put things back together did you connect the CPU cooler to the correct fan header on the MB, there should be three in a row at the edge of the MB with the second one being for the CPU and the ones either side for any chassis fans.

Yeah it’s definitely in the right one. My CPU has never gone over 60 degrees so I’m wondering what’s the need for the fans to be going so crazy. Same as the GPU it doesn’t really go above 60 degrees. This is when playing games I.E. Valorant + Fortnite
