why did you not replace it with the same model card

Only other thing than I could surmise is the WiFi card is a dud and or cannot handle that there is only one wire.

It could well be that the original card can handle one wire but the new card needs two wires
That’s why it is normally best to replace somethings with like for like.
I would hve the cable going to 1 not aux

Or just use ethernet wire as I don’t exactly go down internet cafes or airport terminals with it.

Well it was fine from new until recently on the one antenna.

What was fine from the new unit?

correct - they are standard.
(at least with all the ones I have ever come across)
