While running the driver installation I have a message saying the existing driver is newer than the one I’m trying to install should I overwrite the existing?

Did you activate Windows 10 before the trouble started?

      If yes, overwrite.
If no… thinking and waiting your answer.

If Windows 10 was activated, your machine is licensed and we can install 10 clean, avoiding the driver update issue that seems to have caused this problem.

I do not know for sure but Windows 10 was running for months before this issue so I assume it auto activated

Seems reasonable. Install the driver from HP. Disable AMT in BIOS. Boot to normal mode.

Is this where I disable AMT?
              Advanced>Device options
Nic (AMT) option rom download - Enabled

Please export event logs and upload here. ZIP if necessary. I am not certain how to get to the event viewer in windows 10, but search β€˜event’ should take you there. I am interested in two sets to begin with. Application and System, system being the more important.

                    How to:

chuckle. I logged into the forum to see if you were here. I saw you, but you had not posted anything. That was three hours ago. Apparently, I took a nap. Life is good.

I provided you a poor instruction. For my purposes, I need the unfiltered logs. Please provide the same two reports one more time, but do not apply any filter prior to saving them.

In fact, please clear the logs and then perform a system restart. The Clear Logs command is on the same menu as the Filter Log commend. Do not Save and Clear, just Clear. After clearing, restart. Then go back into Eventvwr and export the same two logs.

                        My bad.

Just to be clear, do you want me to attempt a normal restart (which will fail) or go straight to safe mode?

                            both
The normal will show what fails, the safe will allow the export

From Safe mode, uninstall McAfee. Everything McAfee
