Now I've gone and done it!!

First, Let me thank you for taking time to read about my issue. I appreciate that, a lot. I hope you can help me help myself thru this. Again, Thank you, I really cant say that enough.

I am a β€œbudding” PC enthusiast, really just cutting my teeth. I wanted to build a new PC. In classic Papa D manor, I don’t think I did enough research. Although according to pc parts picker, all my new components are compatible. Let me share with you this new build.

    Case: NZXT H630
    MOBO: Gigabyte Z170 LGA 1151 Gaming G1
    CPU:Intel Core i7-6700K 8M skylake Quad-Core 4.0 ghz
    Ram: 4 x 8 GB 288 pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3400 (PC4 27200) G.Skill Ripjaws V series (32 gb total)
    SSD: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 512GB
    HDD: WD Purple 6TB surveillance
CPU Cooler: NZXT kraken x61 280mm
PSU: Rosewill Quark-1000 80 Plus Platinum
    GPU: GIgabyte radeon r9 390 G1

So, basically. I built the PC. Installed WIn 7 from disk I had, and upgraded to WIN 10. I have installed all updates. I have q flashed bios to the latest version. I believe chipset drivers and all others are up to date.

I had noticed pixilization ( i do not know the proper term) during what i would consider normal tasks. I do run two monitors. I play Ultima Online, which is not very graphic intensive. I think that this system should run it very smoothly. The lock ups and hiccups lead me to look into it further.

I read alot of forums, and downloaded furmark. When I attempt to run it, my system immediately re boots. I was getting time out errors in event viewer. I added two reg entries, to set a value of 10 for the time out (extreme?) I am still having trouble running furmark. I thought perhaps it was a conflict with furmark. At the advice of a friend I downloaded futuremark. I have been running the firestrike test. More often then not I freeze in the demo. I rarely make it to the end of the test. When i do I get a decent score. It isnt consistent though.

I used DDU in safe mode, un installed all AMD drivers. Re installed, several times, with several methods. Their detection software, maually, etc. I have enabled crossfire in catalyst. and set a frame rate max at 80. I am still experiencing problems.

Any hope that someone can help me to decipher the warnings and errors in event viewer to trouble shoot this and kill it dead? I woul dbe so grateful for even a little direction. I have honestly tried to resolve this myself. But I have reached a point where I feel that I am going in circles, a flopping fish LOL.

I have NOT manually check power supply with a meter. I have swap cards, slots, power cables, and outlets on PSU (modulating) with same results.

Sorry for long post, really just trying to give as much info as possible. I can post logs if someone is willing to take the time to help me know how to get them.

Thank you again for taking time to read this, in the meantime I will keep googling…

    Hey there Papa,

A reboot when running something is a sign of overheating or a critical hardware fault. What I need you to do is to download and run SpeedFan and post the log and temperatures.

SpeedFan - Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

I can tell you that your GPU is overheating. It’s way too hot. 58c at idle is too hot.

What I need you to try is to shut off your computer, take the card out, make sure it’s not dirty, and make sure the fans spin freely. Then plug it back in and start the computer back up. I’ll need another screenshot of the temps afterwards

Also since we’re focusing on your GPU, go ahead and run GPU-Z and post a screenshot of the Sensor tab. I want to make sure thermal paste isn’t needed.

        GPU-Z https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ (No install needed)

Sorry for the delay. The cards are very new. No dust or clutter or foreign objects in them or on them. two onboard fans on each card, all fans spin freely. No sign of bad bearing or shaft wobble, all the blades are intact. I did ADD a fan to the front of the case I have no actual reason why. The configuration is Liquid cooler two fans blowing out top of case. One rear fan blowing out. PSU bottom drawing down and exhausting out, Two fans in front blowing in. Here is new speedfan shot, GPU-Z to follow…

You can try it and try running your benchmark tool to see if it still freezes and/or crashes.

ok, I ran 3d mark , firestrike, it made it thru the entire test, progress?? I tested better than 79% of all results, so thats not too bad? Highest temp i saw on speedfan while running test was 77 celsius on gpu 1. Gonna run a few more times, make sure it wasnt a fluke, also want to try furmark again and see if it just resets the machine like it was. I suspect maybe several issues going on here, and greatly appreciate your time and help. It is a relief just to have someone with some experience in my corner to bounce stuff off of.

hmm, added note, it appears that when I removed the cards to check the fans etc, they got knocked out of crossfire. SO that test was on a single gpu not linked. Gonna see how it does with Furmark, then re enable crossfire and run both tests again…

Dont know if you guys are familiar with furmark, but I ran pre set 720 and presset 1080(FHD) in full screen and completed both tests with out instant re boot as was experiencing before. Gonna enable crossfire and see if it rears its ugly little head again…Thank you again for helping, really can not say that enough.
