I recently tried a speedtest on my main PC and found out that it was getting 30Mb/s vs what it should be getting from my ISP, 300 Mb/s. I tested both my ethernet and wifi, and they're comparable. I don't know when this started.

(The ethernet and wifi adapter are separate BTW. I built this PC with a Z170 Krait Gaming Motherboard and then added a wifi adapter through a PCI-e slot.)

I tried the same cable and ethernet port on a different laptop and it got 190 Mb/s. WiFi was around 100 Mb/s in the same area. I tested my >12 year old laptop with the same setup and even it got 300 Mb/s!! My phone and ipad get 200-300 Mb/s in the same area, but they are newer.

I tried reinstalling the drivers with no change. I checked for updates and there aren't any. Running my PC in safe mode doesn't make a difference.

I tried these commands with no change:
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset

I'm running out of things to check to figure out why it's so slow and going crazy!!! I don't think it's a hardware issue since my wifi and ethernet are both slow, and use different hardware, so I think it's a software issue somewhere, unless there's a basic motherboard issue, but I don't know what the software issue could be.

Any ideas?

Ethernet adapter: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I219-V

Wifi adapter: Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter

Let’s do a full workup of your system.
No personal data is published and everything shown is safe.

1) Download Speccy by Piriform.
In Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
Paste that link into your post. Is Speccy safe?

2) Download GetSystemInfo by Kaspersky.
In GSI, click Start. (takes about 10mins)
It makes a ZIP file on your desktop, drag that to their GSI Parser site.
Once analysed, paste the newly created URL into your post.

3) Download MiniToolBox by Farbar.
In MTB, tick List Installed Programs, click Go then close the program.
A file MTB.txt is created in the same folder, attach that to your post.

4) No software interrogates the Power Supply Unit so list the make/model.

5) Go to www.speedtest.net and screenshot your network speeds.

do you have something other than GetSystemInfo? not a fan of kaspersky.

speccy and MTB is attached.

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650

i use testmy.net for speedtests.
the difference between the 30 Mb/s and 360 Mb/s was running the test on windows vs a linux usb BTW.

Some extra things to look into;
  • you have two AV programs running - AVG and BitDefender
  • M:\ and Z:\ drives are showing some Read Errors and some Seek Errors
  • BIOS version is December 2016, latest (also old) is July 2018, so the mobo isn't getting any more Intel micro code patched or GPU updates or just general improvements
  • you are using 3 memory slots, so while you get the advantage of more RAM you are losing the benefits of dual channel speeds
  • I count around 10 scheduled tasks that could be disabled
