hi everyone

i need some help with graphics card that stopped working.
i had a power surge in my apartment and when the pc crashed my graphics card stopped working. i have 2 screens, only one lit up and i got the error:
"unsupported graphics card - there is a problem with your graphics card. please ensure your card meets the minimum system requirements and that you have the latest drivers installed."
i checked the driver and it was updated.
i tried using stronger/newer graphics card and i got the same message (even after installing the newest driver).
i tried weaker/older graphics card and it works fine.

one more thing, when the problematic graphics cards are connected i can see in the device manager that the graphics card is recognized but it shows an error.


my PC specs:
cpu - I7-6700 3.4GHz 8MB 1151 tray
power supply - tr2 challenger 500w thermaltake
motherboard - B150M-A m.2 1151 DDR4 2400MHz

graphics cards:
original - geforce GTX1060 itx 6gb
newer - geforce dual gtx 1660 super OC 6gb
older - geforce gtx 750 ti

I'm lost, I'll appreciate any advice on how to solve it.

It sounds like your psu was effected by that power surge.. I would suggest that when you get your issue solved,that you buy a good home power surge protector.

Download these 2. run and make sure when you post the findings that the voltage shows up.. One simple way to post is to hit print screen button and paste to Windows paint and save to post..

I suspect that the present PSU is not up to the task of powering any half decent video card, the 750TI you may just get by with it because it only draws power from the MBs PCI-E slot but any card that requires a supplemental power dongle from the PSU is likely to struggle, the GTX 1060 and the Dual GTX 1660 super OC should ideally be powered by a minimum of a Gold efficiency rated 450W or above quality brand PSU, the present Thermaltake TR2 Challenger 500W does not meet any of these requirements as it is not even Bronze efficiency rated, is well out of warranty and is not one of the recommended brands.

Can I ask what error message you are getting?

Regardless of any outcome here the PSU needs to be replaced I`m afraid.
 
it this what you ment? did it with the old gpu, do i need to connect the new one?

Can I ask what error message you are getting?
Can you also answer the above for us.

Notice that you have one SSD and three mechanical HDDs, you 100% should not use any GPU other than the GTX 750Ti until you have a minimum of a 500W PSU from a quality brand such as Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic and as previously mentioned preferably a Gold efficiency rated model, the cheaper bronze efficiency rated PSUs are only intended for office type computers that only have integrated graphics or at most only require a 300W PSU for the most basic of GPU that does not require a supplemental power dongle from the PSU.
 
the error i had in the device manager:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.
 
tried a different PSU - seasonic s12ii 620w bronze, still didn't work, got the same result.

That PSU would be ok if it was out of the box new but not if any more than a couple of years old, the model was first released back in 2010, how old is the one that you have.

There are no recent problems shown for the GPU drivers but there are for EpicGamesLauncher, Steam and Windows.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.


To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
 
You still have the 750Ti in the MB, now that you have the 620W Seasonic PSU** in place you should have either the 1060 or 1660 in the board, we can`t troubleshoot the card/s otherwise.

** Only Bronze efficiency rated and well out of warranty so not brilliant but an awful lot better than the original PSU.

tried solutions 1-5 already
i guess i'll try the 6th and hope it works.
 
Fingers crossed for you but still feel that upgrading to Windows 10 is the best option - be sure to create a new system restore point before trying anything.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help. I upgraded to windows 10 (about 2 days ago - wasn't available to do it until now) and now the GPU works fine (all 3).
