I understand that PCIe 4x4 NVMe's can run in a PCIe 3x4 Slot at reduced speed, I just wasn't sure if there was an option to boost or make it run closer to the speed advertised in PCIe 4x4 slots. I had heard that MSI might have released some kind of support for PCIe 3's to run close to 4's.

Also would a 4.0/3.0 adapter work correctly with this motherboard and running a PCIe 4x4 SSD? Will it support the full speed then? I should also state that the NVMe is a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB I plan on making my OS when it arrives through drive migration.

No, they made an attempt to see if they could and found it did not work as they hyped it to and scrapped it.

Also looking at the manual what you are looking at doing may not be possible.
