I could not get past the page no matter how hard I tried. I then had a message press Ctrl +Alt+ Delete and your PC will restart, this did not work and now I am unable to connect past this page in any way.Even F8 safe start fails to operate can someone be good enough to help.Im using my daughters small lap top at moment which is so slow I can see the ink drying!! Thanks
WOULD SOME KNOWLEDGEABLE MEMBER PLEASE ASSIST WITH THIS PROBLEM THANK YOU

Is there any way that I can reboot my present PC files to allow me to access trouble shoot and carry out a restore?? Is there a restore disc that I can purchase which will allow me to access MY pc files??? If passible I do not want to have the hassle of starting from scratch?
Is the microsoft blue screen genuine or have I been hit by a bug!!!!

Hello,

Can you provide a screenshot/photo of the blue screen so we can review it?

Were any changes made to the computer recently? How old is the computer?

Have you experienced a blue screen before any time recently?

Were you able to power down the computer and restart it? (Unplug desktop or hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds until it shuts off. Make sure to get pictures of the blue screen before restarting for us to review). Once you restart the computer, are you able to boot fine, or do you get another blue screen?

Thank you

Thank you
In a nutshell Im afraid not as I have no access to any of the PC controls.
Only changes were latest updates. PC is at least 10yrs old but has had graphic and audio card replacements, regularly updated .model is Acer Aspire M3910
Unable to power up totally locked out. So unable to use shift and restart to access trouble shoot?
Yes had one identical bluescreen, which completely takes over PC allowing no access from administrator.

One very important change this morning, when I powered up (that incidentally is turning on power to PC,PC then takes over and allows no input of.any kind.)But this morning when I turned it on, a message came up giving me the option to auto fix, after a few minutes the screen settled on trouble shoot and I thought my problem was over...but no. Restore would not work as it did not recognise my OS.
Repair did not work as it could find nothing to repair.CMD prompt left me cold as I do not know how to use it.
By the way thank you for stepping in to assist, but I think the time may have come to replace PC if you ahve any recommendations would appreciate it although cost would be a consideration.

Hello,

It is possible that because the drive is old, it is going through some data loss or data corruption, and as a result, it is effecting the operating system. It could be either that or malware I suppose. But considering the computer is old, I'm more inclined to believe in the former. Although if you suspect that it could be malware, then we can talk about it in more depth, since it can be tricky.

Just to make sure, when you powered on the computer, did you see the screen from the attachments below? Then when you clicked "Restart" it said that the OS could not be found?

When you turn on the computer, can you try pressing the "Del" key or "F2" as much as possible before the computer loads in order to access the BIOS? You should be able to access BIOS even if no drive is installed. I don't know what the screen will look like on your end exactly, but if you poke around, there should be some boot settings. I just want to make sure that the drive is recognized. If it is, and it is on the top of the boot priority, and the OS will not load anymore, then it is likely due to some form of data corruption.

You can also try to enable secure boot in the BIOS settings and see if you are able to boot up the disk then, or if it is enabled, then try disabling it and booting up the computer again. If enabling/disabling secure boot allowed you to boot up the operating system, then I think we should talk about malware a little more.

If you have questions on where items are in the BIOS settings, then you can google what you are looking for along with the motherboard you have, as the BIOS settings would be motherboard specific.

If you don't want a whole new computer, then you can purchase another drive. Assuming your computer has a hard drive as opposed to a solid-state drive, it is possible to use recovery software to get some of any lost data back. Besides that, you will only be able to recover what is left on the drive (unless you have been backing up your data).

I can give advice on purchasing drives that is compatible with your system and how to install if you would like, should it come to that.

If you don't go into the BIOS, and you hit the automatic repair screen again, then if you hit "Advanced Options", then there should be an option that talks about entering UEFI or changing UEFI firmware settings. You will want to hit that. Once it restarts, it will enter BIOS

I have done that as I am given the option of Delete for boot system and F1 for set up. unfortunately i have no way of knowing how to use them.
Just to recap and ensure we are on the same page, the PC has began offering auto repair, when I hit this it takes me to trouble shoot programme, but NONE of the sites work. Restore states it doesn't know my OS and auto repair states no system to repair.

At no time am I given the option to self start or restart?

But I can bring up boot system plus set up? Can that help in any way?
think Im also given the option to access f12 for bios from the other two prompts mentioned.
Other than that PC is in all respects dead!

the only options given in advanced were restore,Cmd prompt, and delete updates...although I tried them none of them worked

The key to enter the BIOS is different per motherboard/PC. If it is F12, then hit F12. You tend to need to be quick.

If you can also access command prompt. Can you use the command 'chkdsk /r'. Let it run and post results.

Feel free to post pictures. They will give me a better idea of what is going on.

You said that you had the option to troubleshoot? Do you have access to advanced options there, or is almost every button that you are clicking on simply not responding.

Im unable to post pictures as all keys are inoperable,I can access the screen boots up,if as you say IM quick to access the f12 key.
I can only access cmd prompt as and when the PC decides to go into auto repair, its only done that twice in the last 24hrs!!!
I have no control over any of it.
If I go into bios mode via f12 how will that help me?
As and when the auto repair screen comes up I will attempt chkdsk ,if that fails then i will attempt to reinstall OS from your link,,thanks will get back tomorrow.Really appreciate your patience.

You can take pictures from your phone.

I think checking BIOS is less important now that I understand the issue a little more, but if you can access BIOS, I would still try changing the secure boot settings just to rule it out.

If you shut down the computer after it boots (or loads the blue screen in your case) two or three times within a short period of time, eventually it will show a different screen saying that windows did not load correctly. You can then click the button for advanced options > troubleshoot > advanced options > Then you have access to UEFI and command prompt from there. I don't remember if that is the exact pathway but look for those buttons.

If you can use chkdsk then it will reveal if the disk is dying or not.

Then if it says chkdsk is in the green, then something happened to the operating system that we will need to investigate, so reinstalling it would be the best option here.

If you cannot access command prompt, then at least reinstalling Windows will give temporary access to your files. My only concern is that if your disk is actually degraded, then the more read/write operations we perform, the worse the disk will get.

Do you have your important data/files backed up?

We both had the same idea as I have taken some pics on phone and will attach as soon as i can save to daughters laptop and then send them to you.
I have tried repeated on/off manoeuvres with little success, but each morniing when I switch on it goes into auto repair mode and finishes at advanced repair settings. But dont get too excited as none of them will respond, system restore states no known OS.
Cmd prompt states cannot carry out chkdsk/r as program over written?
However I tried just chkdsk. which brought up 2 pages of info???Ending with carry out chkdsk/F
which I did, but again it came back cannot run chkdsk/F as programme over written????
But the pages of material displayed I photographed and will pass them on to you. One of my biggest difficulties is having to use this small and very slow laptop!!
So will download photos to laptop then hopefully send them as an attachment....once again thanks for staying with me

reply may take some time,so please bear with me Cheers and Merry Christmas.......Regards Derek

Hello,

I'm a bit busy today so my next response will be tomorrow probably. If you don't mind entering cmd prompt again, and type 'net user' then type 'net user administrator /active:yes' or whatever the administrator account is that is listed under 'net user'. Then try 'chkdsk /r'. It should include functionality of chkdsk /f as well.

So far 0 bad sectors is good, but it is showing a very low amount of disk space and I believe it might because it requires admin status. The message you are getting about the drive being locked is likely due to admin status not being enabled.

I also missed that this is a laptop, I don't do laptop repairs but knowing laptop manufacturers, they make accessing the motherboard pretty tough, and everything is condensed on top of that.

If disk shows 0 bad sectors then drive is probably good. I would think it is likely a malware issue. In which case disable secure boot in BIOS and if that doesn't work, reinstall windows. I think you can still get the license key from a corrupt version of windows

As all the photos state the drive is locked then this can indicate the drive has failed & locked the drive to prevent further problems.
I would recommend downloading Macrium Reflect free, creating their boot USB & boot the problem PC with this & create an image of the drive immediately.

I believe Bastet is right. I tried running chkdsk without admin permission and it gives a different error. Plus after doing some more research, it looks like the write protected error message may imply that the drive has been corrupted if you have not modified it any way recently.

Hi You do appreciate that there is no way that I can access any sections of my desktop,so any advice has to be carried out by avery small laptop with a very small ram etc......is that the way you would have me proceed. Merry Christmas and a happy new year will pick this up if you dont mind after the neaxt few days
