I have tried to provide as much information about this Compaq. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers but not lazy to learn either.
This computer does not run slow but the previous owner had given it to her son without really worrying about the tons of personal files from her business, cause her son doesn't go on porn sites that send out viruses ooh nooo. This is the 4th one he's been given and already something fishy is going on. I would like to take a crash course on the best solution fixing this dam thing so my friend can have more than just magazines to look at. (haha) It doesn't run that slow considering how much memory is left & being in the mountains. I know the best solution would be to buy a brand new one. So to get down to the point I would like to know whether it would be wise to reformat to factory settings.? How would it improve this computer? More storage, memory? Faster? Right now the last back up failed, windows can't check for updates, potentially unprotected, defender can't seem to update, and there seems to be a virus going on. From what I have read, reformatting to factory settings would be a good thing to do but would like someone that has a lot patience to guide me step by step

There are many advantages to doing a Factory Restore among them is that you wind up with clean system like it was fresh out of the box. Disadvantage is that you will need to redo all of the patches, up dates again which can take time depending on the speed of the system and internet speeds.

Plus there is all that junk ware that comes preinstalled (which we can assist in the removal).

Yes.

Would need the Make and Model. If you have the recovery disk for that system or if they recovery partition is there then you can use that.

Sounds harder than it is. The biggest issue is time.

It appears that this issue is resolved, therefore I am closing the topic. If that is not the case and you need or wish to continue with this topic, please send me or any Staff Member a Personal Message (PM) that you would like this topic re-opened. :)
