Can you reset the modem - router to factory settings.

Also have another Ethernet cord to test with?

Try plugging the computer directly into modem bypassing the router.

Sorry for the short response, I’m not at my computer.
Command prompt nslookup now lists my dns server as my default gateway again, despite running the batch file you provided and verifying it was set to 8.8.8.8 in command prompt. I just ran it now and it changed back to Google but, why would it change like that?

Sorry the formatting on my last reply was messed up. You have to click "Click to expand..." to see my reply :cautious:

Some additional information. I downloaded and ran pingplotter:
It says that there is packet loss at my default gateway as well as a couple of servers that look like are Verizon's. I get these results every time I run PP and the packet loss happens constantly.

Is this symptomatic of there being an issue with my ISP or connection, or is there a good reason why this could be happening?

I'm reading information from Ping Plotter's website:
And it says that the following image is what a network with a hardware failure looks like.
my hop 2.png

And now, my results from PP:
my hop 1.png

So based on my limited understanding of the subject, I'm thinking I could have a hardware problem. I will see if I can follow their guide on further diagnosis. Additionally, I was also thinking my LAN card could be having problems, maybe electrical interference so I recently bought an external LAN card, however it doens't fit in my case so I will have to pick up a new case for my PC before trying it.

Have you tried resetting the router modem and other suggestions I posted? I have never used the program you mention, so I can not advise on that.

@Jakeeer - you logged in Sunday but didn't update - any news?
Any idea how I'd reset the modem? I only have one "box" that we use for internet. We use it for wifi and ethernet. I can sign in to the settings page (192.168.1.1) but it only refers to it as a routuer not a modem. I've factory reset it inside these menus but I'm not sure if that's doing anything for me because it doesnt specifically refer to it as a modem.

I've tried multiple cables as well.

if you logged into the router config page (192.168.1.1) and clicked on the reset options in there, that should have done it.

when you are in the config menu, what does it say is the make/model of the router?
so there'll be cables (ethernet) coming out of it and going to PC's, are there any that go to other hardware boxes?

if you reset it, you would have reset the wireless settings back to default and if it really is a modem as well, you probably would have had to re-enter your Providers login details?
did you need to do any of that?

The model name is G3100. It's connected to a small box outback in our shed but nothing else is connected to it such as ethernet cables.

The factory reset didnt prompt any of our devices such as cellphones to re-enter the password.

is there any cable plugged into the WAN port or COAX port?
and if there are any in the ethernet ports, where do they go to?

so it sounds like the G3100 is just your wifi router and the box in the shed is the internet modem.
that should be rebooted as well if not already done to get you fully up to date with what Mal has previously suggested.

Yes' Ive tried resetting it multiple times as well as unplugging it for ~10 mins.

as to your internet issues, it would be good to get the Signal to Noise ratio value and attenuation figure off the modem, you'll have to log on to it's config page by using it's IP address.

also go to speedtest.net to check your ping and speed.

otherwise talk to your internet provider, they should be able to do a noise check on the line to see if it meets their minimum service levels.

I dont see any way to check SNR or Attenuation figure without calling my isp. As for my download speeds, theyre perfectly fine. I get just under 1gbps normally and my ping is low as well. In my game I set it to only match my closest server (20ms) and the problems are just are present as they are on a 150ms server.

In fact I'd rather play on 150ms without this problem than 20ms with this problem! That's how frustrating it is.

fair enough, you only need to worry about SNR and attenuation in the line if you want to investigate the finer details of lagging, FPS drops, DNS timeouts, etc.
for example, you may be getting 1Gbps, but if two out of every three data packets are getting lost, then there's an issue. (y)

Have you set a static IP with this tool?

Simple Static IP
Also set your best DNS server after setting the Static IP
