Solved Ram stick info help

That looks a lot better (y)

Before we go any further, would you be ok with using just the 8GB for the rest of the day as what will be suggested next will mean leaving the PC disconnected from the mains power over night with the CMOS battery removed from the MB.
Yes I don’t know if I understand fully what you’re saying but the pc will only work with the one ram stick anyway and I have tried taking out the cmos but I only did it for a few minutes with no effect I just tried swapping both sticks again and both working fine just won’t boot when both are in

Please, no need to quote :(

Use the computer for the rest of the day.

Once you are done, shut Windows down as you normally would, isolate the PC from the mains electric by disconnecting it from the wall socket.

Press the case power button for 20 to 30 seconds to get rid of any residual charge in the MB.

Remove the CMOS battery from the MB and put it somewhere safe overnight.

Tomorrow, put the CMOS battery back in.

Insert the second stick of RAM, reassemble, power up to see if there is any change in the behaviour.

Post back with an update when you are ready.

What we are trying to do with the above is to clear any possible bad BIOS settings and to do this we need to make sure that there is no charge in the system whatsoever, if it doesn't work we will move on to testing your both sticks of RAM as best we can, steps for this as and when/if required.

FYI using just one stick of RAM does not reduce your PC to 50 percent lower. In the real world this will reduce you about 5-10 percent. But use two sticks if you can. Like what was said, use one 8GB stick till you buy another. It will be there when you buy another MB or fix this one. You should run Defender even if you have bought Norton. You will also find that is near impossible to delete Norton ever, even when your subscription runs out. Takes a full fresh install.
You also should buy a small SSD (cheap) just to install your OS on.
Can I ask if you just got this for Xmas, was it you who filled up your HDD? Did you get this PC freshly reformatted? If the answer is you got it like this, then a fresh install is needed, and it might fix your problems as well.

If you take the battery out, flick the PSU with cord out, off and on a few times to help drain your capacitors

Hackerballs,

You have come to the dining table while we are washing up the dishes and putting them away.

FYI using just one stick of RAM does not reduce your PC to 50 percent lower.

Where was it said that one stick of RAM reduces the PC to 50 percent.

What was said and explained as to why was the difference between RAM working in single channel mode as opposed to dual channel mode, my maths is not brilliant but does 50% of 2400MHz not =1200MHz because that is what the OPs RAM is running at in single channel mode with the one stick of RAM in the board.

Yeah it was me who filled up the hdd like that I appreciate the replies I’m just gonna use it for now and take the cmos out tonight I really think it’s an issue with the ram slot though so I think I’m gonna have to buy a new board I have a quick question about buying a board though if I get one does it exactly have to support 2400mhz speed or can the board just support 3000mhz speed I’m a little confused about this since all these motherboards support different speeds some only saying the support one compared to others

We are hoping to be able to avoid the need for a new MB so be patient and stick to our game plan.

If one does turn out to be needed you will have no problem replacing the board.

Sorry this is my last question for today but about the ram thing wouldn’t a single stick still run at 2400mhz I was just curious about this since a single stick is 2400mhz like I have one stick in right now and it says my speed is 2400mhz

this since a single stick is 2400mhz like I have one stick in right now and it says my speed is 2400mhz

Nope and this has already been explained twice :(

Your RAM when there are two matching sticks which enables dual channel will allow the RAM to work at 2400MHz.

Because you only have the one stick of RAM in the board it can only work in single channel at circa 1200MHz.

You can check both of your Speccy reports again if you like;

From your latest Speccy report;

Memory
Type: Unknown
Size: 8192 MBytes
Channels #: Single
DRAM Frequency: 1196.5 MHz

CAS# Latency (CL): 16 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD): 16 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP): 16 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS): 39 clocks
Command Rate (CR): 2T
Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 39 %

Thank you for explaining again I’m sorry I know it’s probably annoying just didn’t understand it fully appreciate the in depth explanation I was just confused on how the stick says a certain speed but that’s only if you have dual channel I’m sorry for asking so much but the info really helps

No worries, one of the previous explanations that had to be given was an unnecessary one, not down to you so don`t worry, as long as you have grasped the explanation that`s all that matters.

Not great news but it at least crosses off something on the check list.

Check the CPU using the Intel test tool this should flag up any issues with the memory controller.

The only test after the above is to run Memtest on each of the two sticks of RAM, this is time consuming as you need at least 4 or 5 passes for each stick, if both pass this testing you have confirmed that it is the slot on the MB that is bad.

Passed cpu test I’m just gonna not do the memtest sadly because I don’t have a working usb and I’m 99.99 percent sure it’s the MOBO sadly I was looking everywhere yesterday and realized how much harder it is to get 7th gen motherboard in my price range so idk what I’m gonna do as of now I found my same motherboard on eBay for a really good price refurbished it looks legit just scared to buy **** off eBay do you have any opinion on what a I should do with my money situation and stuff should I just buy the motherboard off eBay

**** I really need help looking for a motherboard I was only trying to spend like 100 dollars none on Amazon all the ones on Newegg take a month and most on eBay take a month from China so I really don’t know what to do at this point I really don’t feel like waiting a month
