Yeah, just went through the Speccy report again and your laptop only has wifi connection.
OK, I managed to download both the Windows11 Assistant and the Media Creation Tool, I see a lot of instructions. So which should I start with?

Before you install Windows 11, it’s a good idea to save any work and back up your PC before you start. If you used the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO file for Windows 11, remember to burn it to a DVD before following these steps:

  1. Attach the USB flash drive or insert the DVD on the PC where you want to install Windows 11.
  2. Restart your PC.

So I'm not sure about this. In the end though, I probably have everything I need either saved to Google Drive or on USB.

Double click the MediaCreationTool file you downloaded from Microsoft.
Have the USB stick inserted.
Click Accept on the license terms window, and on the next screen leave the default settings as they are and click Next.
Select the USB flash drive option and then Next.
You should now see your USB stick listed, hit Next.
It'll now download the ISO, make a bootable USB drive and copy the ISO to your USB stick.

This stick now stays in the PC when you reboot and the laptop should boot from the USB drive before the internal system drive, if not, adjust the boot order in BIOS.

Well, I tried a USB stick but then had to use a larger old passport storage but HOLY CRAP I didn’t realize it would erase my other data. Wow did I lose amazingly precious and irreplaceable stuff. I’m so upset. But I guess it’s done and on the device. I have left it connected and tried to click on the Windows Installation Assistant and it won’t work.

I tried to post a picture of it but it says it’s because of my internet connection, which I was worried was get in the way

Sorry for all the replies, I’m a bit freaked out now, I cant think straight, I’ll be devastated if this doesn’t work and I lose all that stuff anyway. That’s where I’m had all my files from my computer backed up too, so now I’m not sure what to do. I tried to click the Windows Installation Assistant again because I got online but it just says The device is already running the latest version, did I download the wrong app?

OMG, I erased all the data from the other 32 GB drive that I tried first too! This is a disaster!

OK - you need to stop and read things before clicking and blindly charging forward.
The Media Creation Tool tells you to use a USB stick of at least 8GB and when you click the button to start the process it warns you that everything on the target USB device will be deleted.

Despite the massive loss of your files, it sounds like you do have Windows 11 on the PC now.
But I don't know how you have done it because after the Media Creation Tool creates your bootable USB stick and you boot the PC from that, there is no warning that 'Windows 11 is already loaded'.

Where did you deviate from the list of directions in post #43?

And Chris, no malice intended here, but I'm getting the feeling you may be out of your depth moving forward. No shame in that, we have all been there! Do you have someone at hand who can assist - friend, neighbour, family, etc?

Remove Nortons using their supplied removal tool from their website. If it turns out not to affects things, it can be reinstalled later.

Go to Control Panel, Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, double click your wireless adapter.
Look for anything power related.
Anything that mentions Wake On - set to on/enable, anything that says Sleep on - set to off/disable.
Also look for any category that mentions Power Save Mode.
See if anything helps after tweaking those settings.

If not, while still in Device Manager, right click the wireless adapter, and choose Uninstall.
Reboot the laptop and Windows will discover new hardware and reinstall it.
See if that helps.

If not, I'd be visiting the Intel website and looking for an updated wireless driver.
Other options are a repair install of Windows, or even bypassing the issue altogether and getting a USB wireless dongle for about $30.

Also, have you tried rebooting the modem?
I hadn’t tried to uninstall the adapter yet either.

No, there’s nobody to help me here. I have always had Windows 11 though, or at least for quite a while. I thought I was reinstalling it? OK, I’ll get in front of my laptop right now. So I have that data on that drive.

I did follow the directions to the letter in post #43 though. I downloaded it, left the USB drive in, and restarted my computer. Is that not rebooting?

Is the Qualcomm thing the driver I was supposed to uninstall? I know I'm going back to that, but I hadn't been able to figure it out then. But I really expect that if I uninstall that, I just won't be able to get online. I just didn't see the warning about that program erasing all my data, that's all.

Oh, the warning about Windows already being installed wasn’t after I did the media creation tool, when I did that and then restarted my laptop, nothing seemed to happen. I then went and clicked the download for the Windows 11InstallationAssistant, thinking I was then reinstalling Windows, and got that box.

Don’t give up on me yet. You can bet I’ll read all the warnings from now. I always figured this was a long shot. Maybe I need to do as you suggested and reorder the boot in the BIOS? I’d need to be told how to do that.

Let's step back a moment.

I'm answering questions based on the assumption you had reinstalled Win11 from scratch.
Now you are quoting replies where I have said to remove Norton's and uninstall the adapter - if you have freshly installed Windows then you are way beyond needing to do any of that.

Can I humbly request you stop quoting replies in general - but especially irrelevant, old ones. :)

To summarise - you just had internet disconnect issues, then you said you were also having other issues with other things that suggested a repair install of Windows should be considered, and failing that, a fresh install of Windows.

I'm at a loss as to the current state of your PC.

If you had no idea how to address my problems, you are a horrible jerk for wasting my time this way. Not one thing you said did anything but make things worse. You have a lot of nerve sounding forth as an expert just to screw people over like this. You are truly rotten.

You had no idea what you were doing and now you blame me for following your instructions. You are one of the worst people I’ve dealt with. You have a lot of nerve wasting people’s time and then pretending it’s their fault that you don’t know what you’re doing. The only true thing you’ve written is the last, you’re at a loss and it’s all about you.
