Hard Drive Will Not Boot

Did you tried to clone the drive to a drive of different size? How did you clone, did you try to deploy an image?

Did the first drive fail? Why did you decide to replace it?

seems to be a bit of wheel spinning here...

I'm going back to basics - getting the 1TB working;
  • get Windows onto a bootable USB stick using the Windows Media Creation Tool - this can be done on any PC
  • backup whatever you need keeping off the 1TB drive
  • have no other drives connected, just the 1TB, in SATA0 or SATA1
  • boot the PC with the USB stick in and either hit F11 to bring up the Boot Menu, or have the USB drive set in BIOS to be the first to boot from, and reload Windows afresh, during that process, it'll show a map of the current partitions, delete them all!
if you now have a new m2 SSD, do the above process to it instead of the 1TB drive.
theoretically, you could also do the above to the 8TB - but maybe small steps first!

Op used a HDD toHDD external copier
Thanks Peter.

I would be looking into a fresh install of Windows onto the 8TB if that's what you want your boot drive to be. Make an image backup using a program like Macrium Reflect + back up important files on the other drive and format. Cloning different drives doesn't seem to work well in my experience.

Bruce did a very nice write-up on this in post #62 :)

i think i'm going to RMA this 8TB drive...

The intermittent different computers reading then not reading and unability to install an OS on the drive...if I'm having problems with only having the drive 2 weeks....

Thanks to all who responded here
