Getting strange Sound issue

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hello! I recently upgraded from a GTX 1060 to an RTX 3060 12GB and started using it on my TV. I started experiencing a really strange sound issue where the sound will just stop randomly. It could be 2, 4, or 10 hours it’s completely random.
Everything is up to date with drivers and Windows.

The only way to fix the sound and get it to work again is to:

1. Unplug the HDMI and plug it back in (I’ve used many HDMI cables and still get the problem).
2. Turn off the TV and back on.
3. Turn off the PC and back on.

If I have headphones plugged directly into the PC, it works fine. But if headphones are plugged into the TV or I’m using the TV speakers, the sound will eventually go.
The TV has Android built into it so when I use the TV’s software such as YouTube or Netflix, the sound never stops, just when using a PC when the sound issue occurs.
I don't have this issue when using my Xbox or PlayStation.

I spoke to ASUS support as that’s the brand of the card but they pretty much told me GPUs don’t output sound just video and that it is a TV issue.
They said chances are when I plugged in the GPU, it changed settings in my PC BIOS or on the TV as it detected a different video output signal.
The person I spoke to was very adamant that the GPU couldn’t cause any sort of issue I am experiencing.

The specs of my PC are Intel 12700k, MSI z690 wifi pro series, WD 850, Asus PH RTX 3060 12gb v2, 32gb ddr4 3200mhz, MSI MAG A850GF.

TV- Sony Bravia 65-kexh9005

I have looked at the setting in the TV settings menu and can’t find any volume/sound settings that could cause this or video settings that cause this issue.
As for bios I have no idea what setting I would be looking for.
ATM I'm just using headphones directly plugged into pc so I don't have this issue but want to figure out what causes this just in case something is faulty.

Any help is much appreciated

Allow some time for the speccy report to be gone through and the information on the TV to be researched.

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

have you tried connecting a monitor to the PC rather than the TV and seeing if the issue occurs?

do you know the version of the HDMI cables you are using?
you may have tried different cables, but if they were they same version, they ma all be affected the same?
find out what HDMI version is supported on the GPU and TV ports.

Yeah, it has happened a few times but quite rarely. I would have tested it on my other monitor as well, but it doesn’t have speakers or a headphone port.

All of the HDMI cables I use are HDMI 2.1.

The GPU only has one HDMI which is HDMI 2.1 and 3 DisplayPorts which are 1.4.

I had a pre-built computer less than a year ago and I used it for a month or so before sending it back due to false product specifications and didn’t have any audio issues.

I asked Asus Support why it’s happening on both the Monitor and TV if it isn’t a PC issue, and they said I need to change options in the devices settings panel. They didn’t tell me what setting needs to be changed just that one does, and I have changed just about every setting and still get the same issue.

Sorry, I haven't had time to check back until now.

Bravia TV also has 2.1 HDMI on two of the ports I use supporting 120Hz at 4K.

My PSU is an MSI MPG A850GF.

I had a few hours to spare and I did a test using my CPU's integrated graphics to see if the issue would occur. To my surprise, it didn't.

would also be a nice test to get your hands on a monitor with speakers.
but at least you know the integrated graphics card works on the TV.
Yeah, I'm going to move my PC across to my monitor and test it again(it has speakers).

I had a really strange audio issue when I was playing a game (Minecraft).
I started hearing a weird static noise and every 5 seconds sound would stop-start.
(This constantly happened until I reset pc)

At first, I thought it might be the TV. Then I connected wireless headphones to the TV and got the same problem.

I then quickly changed over to CPU-integrated graphics on my 12700k to see if it had the same issue. It didn't. I then reverted back to the GPU and the issue started again.

100% is a GPU issue.
My OLD Zotac GTX 1060 6GB card doesn't have any of these issues and I think it uses the same audio drivers.
Either a faulty HDMI Or GPU.
