    DVD Video playback.(Windows 10)

I have several DVD videos (produced using Womble Easydvd) which playback fine on DVD Recorder/TV and also with Potplayer on my PC.

I surprisingly can’t get them to play with VLC on my PC??

    Any help would be appreciated.

Why not stick with the superior Potplayer?

      Gus,

I more than likely will, but I was wondering why the disks won’t play with VLC - very unusual I think you’ll agree?

        Gus,
Further to my last post, what I have discovered is that if I play the saved VIDEO_TS with VLC on PC, it works.
Once I put it on to disk, it doesn’t work with VLC on PC - although the disk works on other devices.(4 other DVD players).

Video_ts files are files meant for playback on DVD’s. Why dont you convert them to mp4 to make them playable with just about any pc media player.

No it doesn’t surprise me that VLC wont play files that pot player does.

            Gus,
After much head scratching and messing about I have found a way of playing DVDs. using VLC.

            (1) If I insert DVD into PC it loads with VLC.
            (2) Click on play - nothing happens.
            (3) Click on Media/click on VIDEO_TS/click open…………Title page shows again.
            (4) Click play again and it plays.

I will say that I have other disks (home made) that do play OK???

I will probably use Potplayer to play DVDs. on PC in future.

The reason for that behaviour is you have VLC as the default player for that file extension. If you want you can change the default association to potplayer and you will have no issue playing that file when you click on it.

Have you tried making a new disk???

To change file association if changing it in potplayer doesnt work

                  Go to WINDOWS settings
                  Go to Apps
                  Go to Default apps
Click on “Choose default applications by file type”
                  Scroll down to .ts
Click on the app shown as default on the right
                  change it to potplayer

                    Gus,
I have been working with a new disk from the beginning of this enquiry.
Tried all you suggested - still no change.
The only way I can find to play with VLC, is as I described a couple of posts ago.

                      Gus,

Just to confirm my findings I created a new project with the Womble software and saved it.
When I click on the saved VIDEO_TS it plays with VLC - no problem.
When I put the saved projectt on to a Disk it doesn’t play unless I carry out the procedure as described earlier i.e.
                      (1) If I insert DVD into PC it loads with VLC.
                      (2) Click on play - nothing happens.
                      (3) Click on Media/click on VIDEO_TS/click open…………Title page shows again.
                      (4) Click play again and it plays.

                      Does that suggest anything??

Ok lets decide if you wish to use VLC or potplayer as your primary media player first up?

What is the default app for Video Player-----Settings/apps/default apps/video player

                          Gus,

At the moment I want to use VLC as default, mainly because I want it to be working properly. (Just annoys me that it doesn’t!!!)
(Don’t understand that once I put saved project to disk, VLC doesn’t play it as it should).

VLC is set as default app for Video Player.

                            Gus,

For info, please see attached screenshot.
Should I want to use Potplayer as default, it doesn’t give me the option.

Suggest you reinstall potplayer and allow it to associate with all files it can. Sorry but havent used VLC player for ages, also because of issues with it.
