    Dwm.exe keeps crashing Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll

    So iv had this issue for about 2 months now and after buying a new 1000w PSU, reinstalling windows 10 2 times, uninstalling (with DDR) and reinstalling several different NVIDIA Drivers, factory resetting my mother board i can not stop dwm.exe from crashing
    this thing in i can not replicate the crash, i could be watching a video and BAM my screens go black, video card fans rev up to 100%, can still hear audio but the screens will not turn back on until i do a hard shut off. i could be playing a video game for 4-5 hrs and it not crash at all for days.

    the event viewer error is shows this.
    this last DWM.exe crash showed that DWM.exe crashed 9 times at the same time

    my specs are
    intel core i7 8700
    Mother board: ASrock z370 Pro 4
    DDR4 8x4 (32 GB ram) (oldest parts what I’m thinking of changing next)
    Nvidia Geforce PNY 3080

    I am desperate for help, i have tried toms hardware, microsoft, reddit, ANYPLACE i can find and not ONE person seems to know what the issue is please im begging for a solution besides buy a new computer

    Those errors point towards Windows;

    Three things for you to do;
    1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
    2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

    Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

    Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

    List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
    List Installed Programs
    List Devices (Only Problems)
    List Users, Partitions and Memory size

    Click on Go.

    Post the resulting log in your next reply

          No worries about your Speccy report for now, will post feedback regarding your MTB log first and look at your Speccy report later, got a previous appointment so will be missing for an hour or so.

          Your MTB log is telling us that Windows is badly broken and that you have a few important drivers missing, both of these explain why you have no crash dmps.

          I note that Windows 10 was installed only last month, can I ask what Windows media [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]** was used to install it and once Windows had been installed did you then install the system drivers, see my canned info below;

          [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]** A downloaded ISO from Microsoft or an in place upgrade etc.

          [COLOR=rgb(44, 130, 201)]Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the chipset drivers, then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the hardware manufacturer or downloaded and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

            I used a windows 10 home edition USB install stick which auto Downloaded the latest Windows 10 updates after it was done installing from the usb stick.
            I also turned off the windows 10 auto Hardware update driver because for some reason windows 10 keep trying to over write the official NVIDIA drivers with an older (im talking like right when the card was released) version of the GPU drivers.

            And im not sure where to install my drivers for my mother board or at least the once that the error log has shown missing, the brand website is not very clear on what to download

              And also iv never really installed or updated any driver (except the GPU) because ether windows 10 did it for me or i just never tried to because i don’t really know where to look, what to download.

                At this point I would try a Windows Refresh, this will reinstall just Windows but allow you to keep your personal data, have used this option in the past and recall having to reinstall Chrome so you may likewise may need to reinstall an app or two, see Refresh info here

                If a Refresh does not work you are looking at having to clean install Windows 10 and the drivers for the MB.

                Curious to know why the data on both of your SSDs is exFAT and you have Windows installed on a mechanical HDD as opposed to a much faster SSD.

                  I appreciate your help i will do the system rest now and post back what happens
                  also i really don’t know why i keep my win 10 on a HDD instead of just moving it onto one of my SSDs i think i just feel like windows maybe would have less issues/slowdows if it was on it’s own dedicated drive and i only own 2 SSDs, maybe if i had a 3rd i would put it on that.

                      Im not sure, i never really messed with anything about that like selecting format type, they are external SSDs so i just plugged them in when i got them
                      is that a bad format type or somthing (not really knowlageable about that) should I change them?

                        Ok so the Windows refresh just finished i can’t really say if it fixed it or not because as i said before i can not replicate this crash in anyway
                        do you need me to scan using MTB again or do i just wait untill it crashes again, if it crashes again

                          exFAT is meant to be used for SD cards and USB flashdrives, not HDDs or SSDs and without losing data on the drives you cannot change the format, this will not be helping Windows at all either.

                          Check for and install any Windows updates then see how things go.
