Random application crashes and BSODs

Try restoring the MBs default factory settings in the BIOS, they are sometimes listed as one of the following " factory defaults" “most stable” or on newer boards “optimized” please note that if you have both the “most stable” and the “optimized” options in the BIOS you should choose the most stable" option as in this instance the “optimized” settings are a form of overclocking that can cause instability.

If the above does not work it suggests that your original and new RAM are incompatible.

Thank you, I’ll have some time later on to play around with the RAM again and will give this a shot.

I also just got my first BSOD in over a week, this time for SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Not sure if that’s related or helps at all but thought it would be worth mentioning. I’ll report back when I’ve tried your suggestion.

Alright so I have just spent about 15 minutes looking through the BIOS and I’ve not been able to find anything related to factory settings, even with some of the other wording you mentioned. I also tried googling for where this may be in the AsRock BIOS but all I can seem to find are people referring to resetting the CMOS battery. So I haven’t been able to perform your suggestion.

Would it help if I take some pictures of the options in the BIOS?

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

Nvidea drivers were responsible for the crash;

NVIDIA Display driver update[COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)] released in September 2020

The present drivers are well out of date so you should follow the steps below to get the latest for the RTX 3080 which are Driver Version: 496.13 - Release Date: 2021 October 12

Create a new folder on the desktop, name it Nvidea drivers.

Manually search, download and save to the folder the latest RTX 3080 drivers from here

Download DDU from here

Create a new system restore point then run DDU and uninstall all present Nvidea drivers.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode only (No Networking). [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]**

Install the new GPU drivers that you saved to the folder on your desktop.

Restart the computer, test then post back with an update for us.

Thank you, will give these a crack later on. I also just got a new BSOD for MEMORY_MANAGEMENT which I haven’t had in a while. I have attached the minidump below

It wasn`t RAM related.

What was the computer being used for when this latest BSOD happened and more importantly which one of the storage devices were you accessing data from, pagefile corruption was the cause of the crash with the process that got tripped up being Windows Defender.

Have you ever had any other AV program installed on this computer.

Post an Autoruns log for us, see here

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.

2: Double-click the “Autoruns.exe”.

3: Click on the "Hide Signed Microsoft and Windows Entries” option.

4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.

5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop > when you click on File > Save you will then get the option to Save as type, click the drop down tab, change it to Text and then click the Save button.

6: Attach to your next reply.

I was playing Valorant (not in game, just in the lobby from memory). Valorant is installed on my A drive. The only 3rd party AV I have installed is malwarebytes which I don’t have real time protection turned on, I just manually scan files with it if needed.

You looked to have missed 3: Click on the "Hide Signed Microsoft and Windows Entries” option. which means getting through the log will take me an eternity

I just went to run it again for you as I was pretty sure I selected it, however wanted to check. These are the tickboxes I have which look slightly different to the option in the guide you linked. [MEDIA=imgur]aGtGcQI[/MEDIA]

I am happy to re-run this for you to make it easier if I have done it wrong.

Side comment;

I also thought it might be worth mentioning that aside from that 1 off BSOD I attached a few posts above, I’ve also been experiencing occasional stutters on the system during gameplay (3 different games, 2 installed on the A drive and one on the D drive). The game as well as all other applications will freeze up for around 3 seconds (at a guess) before everything going back to normal.

These stutters were not happening back when I had the 2 sticks of older RAM in the system, but have cropped up now that I have the newer sticks in their place. I was wondering if it may be worth me swapping back to the older ones and using my PC as normal for a while to see if I run into these freezes, but didn’t want to do so without your advice.

You appear to have uploaded two of the same screenshots I`m afraid, no matter though if your PC did not crash when running Furmark as your results look very good.

The format looks to have been updated so yes, please do an updated Autoruns log for us using the options that you have checked.

If you wish to swap just the old RAM back in it is important that you recreate the exact same usage conditions as when you were using the new RAM.

Any stuttering behaviour is going off topic from your OP, as long as the original issue has been resolved this thread should be marked as solved and you then need to start a new thread on the internal hardware forum.
