Installed new drive and a fresh copy of 21H1. I’ve only installed the necessary drivers, and left it using windows defender, rather than my usual av software. Running edge rather than chrome. All seems ok at the min, but virtually nothing is installed on it but the necessary stuff. No freezing in his games so far so fingers crossed. Will install the other stuff he uses 1 by 1 and see how things go.
Thanks for all the help and advice so far

Ok…the system froze again for him, but when he restarted, the system said the bios was corrupted. It reloaded the bios from a backup, and it was fine, but now thus new issue has confused me. Is this a potential motherboard issue all along being marked by a failing hdd. The bios is up to date, would it be wise to reflash the bios with the same version…

Just a thought…as I noted before we switched case, the CPU was running hit and at times but to 75 ish degrees. Could this have damaged the CPU, causing these issues…

Yes you can do that.

Lets check the temps and if the CPU gets to hot the system will shut its self off as a safety precaution to prevent damage form happening. The dust has been cleared put correct? Maybe about time to reapply the thermal paste.

Download Speedfan and install it. Once it’s installed, run the program and post here any information it shows.

So that we have a comparison to Speedfan, download, run and grab a screenshot of HWMonitor (free).

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start…all programs…accessories…paint…left click in the white area …press CTRL + V…click on file…click on save…save it to your desktop…name it something related to the screen your capturing… BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG …otherwise it may be to big to upload… after typing in any response you have… click on Upload a File to add the screenshot.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the β€œhow to”.

OK thanks. Will do that. I reapplied thermal paste when I changed the cpu cooler, when we had the initial overheating issues. It’s not a cooler master evo. Will post up results etc later when I get home.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have attached the screenshots as requested, although its at Idle. Should we now be thinking of stress testing the system. I was thinking of using Prime95, and I have used Furmark, before the HDD change, but that didn’t cause the GPU to crash.
He did use the system last night with no issues, but I had moved the socket the surge protected extension cable plug’s into, and also moved the homeplug internet connection to a different socket, just in case of power surges causing the issue.
It was completely fine when we tested on the kitchen table after the HDD change, so odd it started to play up back in his bedroom.

Again thanks for taking the time to help.

Also, forgot to ask, are there any log files I could use to try and see what component is falling over or which software processes are failing

May have been also the homeplugs need to be in the wall socket and not the surge protector.

Go ahead and rune the stress test and post back what the results are and monitor the temps and stuff under a load.

Where is the system located in the room? Does it get plenty of air circulation?

It’s under his desk, plenty of room under there. The home plugs was already in a mains socket and not the surge protector. Could a surge through the home plug cause these issues… Will run the load tests. He’s currently using it, with no issues at the moment. Game he’s playing usually crashed by now, but all ok. Not sure if I mentioned in my OP, but to get it to run ok in his old case with stock cooling, needed side off and a fan blowing at it, which it why I got a bigger case and aftermarket CPU cooler, as I was suspecting overheating. Will post results as soon as I can get system off him. Do you think bios corruption related or a red herring…

deferentially was not a good thing. Glad to hear that has been corrected.

Did the logs review anything and have the temp remained the same or change?
