I would say someone sold you a PC with an illegitimate copy of Windows. This might be part of the issue as it won’t get any updates, especially security updates, until a legitimate copy is activated.
@phillpower2

If Phil gives me the go ahead, we’ll proceed.

Since an illegitimate copy of Windows is technically “illegal” I may not be able to proceed.
1. Discussion of or promotion of sites offering cracks, warez, torrents, *********** or any other illegal material or any software created to download any of the above will result in an immediate ban. This includes nulled, copied or any other illegal software or operating systems.

Ah, the old 3V66T Product Key.
That code is burnt into my brain, it’s a well known (infamous) volume license key that most of the scammers use.
If you still have all the Key, the first will start with VK7JG.

Apologies for the tardy response, been busy at home + was waiting for the OP to have a chance to reply to the above before I chimed in, the OP visited the forums on Tuesday 18th but did not respond which in itself is off, that bundled with the place of purchase, the giveaway Description: License Activation (slui.exe) in the MTB log and then the blatant counterfeit Windows product key information all combined means that someone is being economic with the truth and the only two options are to outright close the thread or help the OP to get a legitimate product key and activate Windows through Microsoft.

Bottom line, we are not the Windows Police but forum rules are just that and why should we pay for our OS produce keys while others steal and/or sell them.

Fwiw, the irony here is that the OP had a legitimate product key but replaced it with a non legit one meaning that the only way to correct this is by purchasing something that they had in the first place which was a legitimate Windows product key

The above is the only help that can/will be offered.

There are sketchy forums around that help people knowing full well that they have non legit software installed, we are not such a forum that does and the ones that do are nine out of ten times the source of peoples problem in the first place with being locked out of updates and malware infection the two main dangers.

You mentioned that there was a version of Windows already installed on the PC, check the back of the case for any Windows product key sticker and/or check among any paperwork, disks or USB flashdrives that you may have received when you first got the PC, such a product key would allow you to start afresh with what I suspect may have been Windows 10 Home.

Thanks @phillpower2 no need for apology.

Like Phil said, we are not the Windows police, but my stance is that when you have an illegitimate key, Windows does not update. This alone can cause or at least mask problems and makes it exceedingly difficult to troubleshoot and come to accurate and efficient solutions.

Run the Speccy and MTB again so I can get an updated picture of where we are at. Refer to post https://pchelpforum.net/threads/ever...04/post-201069

For starters, change this to balanced.

Active power scheme:
High performance

Window Defender found this: Name: HackTool:BAT/AutoKms
HackTool.AutoKMS is Malwarebytes' generic detection name for hacktools that are intended to enable the illegal use of Microsoft products like Windows and Office.

Speccy and MTB are still showing the same Windows installation date and unlicensed Windows OS.

I have no idea what to do. I’ve purchased the new key and activated it or whatever. I promise you I’ve not done it purposely, I probably did something by accident

The tutorial I followed had something like that, some bat file I ‘had to create’

Would a clean install help? if I just re-installed windows off a usb and entered the key?
