Going back to your answer #6 I’m wondering if its worth me doing a new install of windows 10 but installing the drivers in the order that you suggested. I have already downloaded the up to date drivers on to a USB pendrive from MSi so ready to go. What do you think ??

Nothing to lose by going for a clean install of Windows and the system drivers so good call there (y)

No rush on our behalf as I will be going offline shortly until tomorrow after work UK time.

Suggestion, once you have installed Windows, disconnect from the internet until after you have installed the drivers in the correct order.

Until tomorrow then and good luck.

            Hi Phil,

Story thus far, fresh install of windows 10 64bit & once it was installed I went offline & installed the drivers from a pen drive in the order you specified. So far so good. When I started to install things like Winrar & Office, Mozilla, VLC it was then that things went do laly & I starting getting the following BSOD’s:

            Driver over ran stack buffer
            Irql not less or equal
            Bad pool caller
            System service exception
Attempted write to read only memory

The PC then goes through a quite phase & I can get some work done but after a while & without any reason the PC will crash. I’ve run the usual sfc scannow which shows errors that have been cleared yet the PC still keeps crashing.

              Hi Nisar,

That would normally suggest that it is something that you are installing that is causing the issue.

Did you check for any crash dmps as was described in my reply #15.

For future reference, when troubleshooting issues such as this, after you have done your clean install of Windows and the drivers you install one program at a time, restart the PC, test the program to see if it crashes, make a note of the results then repeat the process for any other programmes/games etc.

                Hi Phil,

I see what your saying but I’m talking about about basic programs such as Opera or Mozilla or even running windows update. I followed your advise & installed the drivers in the correct order & most of them required a restart after an install as did some of the major windows updates. Right in windows updates it is saying that I can update to win 11 for free but I dare not try because I know it will crash on me. I’m thinking of trying to do the upgrade in safe mode if at possible. But just like I said previously there is something fundamentally wrong with my PC that unfortunately we haven’t been able to get to bottom of; no matter how hard we have tried…

You mentioned WinRar, Office and VLC which are not run of the mill programs but even FF or Opera should be done one at a time and the outcome after a restart recorded, same with updates as it is the only way to identify if installing one particular application or program causes the issue.

You could try clean installing Windows 11 and the system drivers but you cannot do so in Safe Mode and once done you will have to follow the same steps as above when it comes to installing third party applications and Windows updates, short version, you would have been better not installing anything until you had been able to use the PC in a stable manner for at least 24 hrs and then posting back here, you may recall that back in my reply #6 I said we would formulate a plan, we can only do this with a stable PC.

You missed answering the above for us, crash dmps will tell us exactly what is going on if this is software related.
