Why can't my pc run games that smooth

I am still kinda new to pc gaming so if I say something stupid please forgive me. I am trying to play assassins creed odyssey and my pc won’t play the game at a solid 60 fps in 4k or 1440. When I run the benchmark in 4k it won’t even go past 50 fps and when I run it in 1440 it will jump from 80 to 35 fps and everywhere in between.

My specs are

Motherboard: ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO
Ram: 32gigs
CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 1700x
Graphics Cards: 2-1080ti
Power Supply: EVGA 1200watt platinum

I have tried it with and without SLI (I got better results with SLI disabled), I also uninstalled my drivers and reinstalled and that didn’t seem to help, I also tried to update my bios and that did nothing. Like I said I’m still kinda new but from what my friends have told be is that I shouldn’t have any problems with running games but this seems to happen with almost every game that I play.

I appreciate the help in advance.

Welcome to PCHF TheRealUnfitFatty,

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

We can see a few things going on in Speccy, will be as brief as your reply #3 is just in case you are in a rush and don`t have time to read a wall of text

Starting from the top of the report;

You have the wrong specification RAM for the CPU that you have.

You have multiple AVs present on the machine.

The power plan is set wrong.

Windows is well out of date.

Thanks for the help, just a few questions, for the RAM specification for the CPU what would I have to change it to? Also what would I have to change my power plan to? Again thanks for the help and thank you in advance.

Apologies TheRealUnfitFatty I had the wrong spec of RAM and yours is ok as long as it is overclocked to 2666MHz.

To address what does need addressing, we can see Bitdefender AV but there is also evidence of Avast AV as well, you don`t need either when running Windows 10 as Windows Defender is as good as BD and better than Avast.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

Having more than one AV installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

Bitdefender removal tools here

If you stick with only Windows Defender, once any other AV has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

Change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues.

For the Windows updates, see info here please note that you must install update 1903 first or you will not be able to install the latest update 1909.

You are welcome btw

Ok I did everything except overclocking my RAM, I was just wondering what is the point of over clocking it? It’s not a big deal but I am just wondering as to why?

Can you post an updated Speccy url for us.

Any improvement since you made the changes?

If you check the specs of your CPU here you will see that the supported memory is DDR4 2666MHz and for some unknown reason AMD say here 2667MHz  regardless of which speed, your RAM needs to be overclocked to achieve 2666/7MHz as atm it is shown to only be running at 2132MHz.

While we look at your updated Speccy url do the following and see how things go, predominantly the Valley FPS test.

Use the free versions at the following two links.

Stress test your GPU with Furmark

Check your FPS with Valley

Edit to add: You still have avast on your computer, did you follow both steps suggested in my reply #6 for as how to remove it.

Ok so I ran the FPS test with valley and I was getting between 70 and 120 fps, I also ran the GPU stress test and I am not really sure what to put for that test but my score was: 5976 and my average FPS was 99. Also I did follow the steps to delete avast but it still shows up in my control panel and when I click uninstall is says the file doesn’t exist. Again thanks for the help

Those results suggest that there is nothing wrong with your hardware and the problem lays elsewhere, we need to sort out the Avast issue before doing anything else I`m afraid as it could still trip up Defender and interfere with your internet connectivity.

Did you use the alternative means of getting rid of Avast, namely avastclear

Okay so I followed the steps and I cant find anything in the control panel or anything in the app setting that shows anything with avast but here is my speccy just in case I missed something: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/G...esY2tNzQmTEg2o

I also tried the play assassin’s creed and I am still averaging about 40ish FPS in 1440 with everything on the max settings

I followed the steps that avast cleaner told me to do and I can find anything in my files that even has avast in them, I really don’t know what to do at this point
