That is odd, if not manually stopped the only other time it can happen is when there is a third party AV installed and the two conflict with each other.

If me I would bite the bullet and back up the personal data on the C: drive and then do a clean install of Windows and the system drivers, I would do things properly this time, see my canned info below;

Create a new 250GB partition on the WD Black C: drive as part of the process explained below;
Windows should always be installed on either its own drive or on a separate partition on a larger drive, this reduces the amount of free space that is required to be kept available + it makes creating a regular back a whole lot easier.

A 256GB SSD or separate partition on a larger capacity drive should be the minimum capacity allowed for.
Equally as important is being prepared for the need to upgrade to another OS, Windows 10 is nearing its end of life and extended support will cease on October 14th, 2025, when the time comes you will only have to worry about upgrading or clean installing Windows to the C: partition as opposed to needing to reinstall all of your programs and data if they were kept on a separate partition on the same drive.

Windows will also boot up quicker on its own partition as it does not need to install drivers for any third party programs.

In addition to the above, a new Windows 11 ISO needs to be downloaded using the media creation tool and the drivers needed after the clean install need to be saved to a flash drive.

Once Windows has been installed, disconnect from the internet, install the chipset drivers, SATA drivers and then the VGA drivers, restart the PC and test.

Sounds good, luckily most of my files are on a seperate drive so I would just have to reinstall games and software. I get that done within the week and report results, I’ve got some work to do over the next week so it’s a little troublesome to complete right now.

I have a 850 Samsung Evo 256GB but for some reason It doesn’t allow a windows 11 install - probably because its an old drive. Do you think its better if I just go out and replace the it with a new drive or creating the partition is good enough.
