    Laptop Boot and Shutdown Issues: Seeking Assistance

    Hello everyone,

    I have a Lenovo V330-15IKB (Model name: 81AX) 8th-gen i7 with 8gb ram laptop. After some time, it stopped booting up properly, often taking multiple attempts to boot up. When this happens, the power button and caps-lock key light up, and the fan starts making noise after a few seconds, but the screen doesn’t turn on. I have to shut it off with the power button and turn it on multiple times. It also takes a long time to shut down and sometimes doesn’t shut down properly. Occasionally, it boots up on the first or second attempt.

    The problem started sometime after I installed dual boot Linux while it was running on Windows. Later, I deleted the Windows partition after the problem began. I also changed the hard disk after some time. It’s currently running on Linux. So far, I have reset the BIOS both in the BIOS settings and by removing the CMOS battery. I have attempted a clean install of Linux, checked my memory using MemTest (it passed 14 tests), changed my hard drive, and checked all the hinges and cables, but the problem persists.

    What do you think could be the issue? Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to PCHF Dagim Ashenafi,

    Good troubleshooting already done so not much left for us to suggest.

    Is the RAM a single stick that is soldered onto the MB.

    Are you using a genuine Lenovo charger and battery.

    Have you along the way run the Lenovo diagnostic tool.

    Just so that you are aware, unless stated otherwise tech assistance forums tend to support Windows OS and Linux users likewise have Linux based tech support.

      Thanks for the reply.
      The laptop has two 4GB RAM modules, one of which is soldered to the MB. They are different brands but have the same specifications. I’m using a genuine charger and battery. So far, I haven’t tried the Lenovo diagnostic tool, but I’ll give it a try.

      I don’t know if it’s important information, but when I was running Memtest, even though it said 8GB of RAM, it was only showing information about the second removable RAM. I haven’t used Memtest before, so I don’t know if that’s an issue or not. But, it seemed like it tested both rams.

        The memtest results were most likely down to only the removable slot offering any results being the non removable is fixed.

        Not sure if the Lenovo program works with Linux and that is why I mentioned the different assistance offered by Linux and Windows forums.

        If you do not solve this while running Linux I would be tempted to clean install Windows and the Lenovo system drivers then go from there, we don`t have any testing programs here at PCHF that ae compatible with both Linux and Windows.

          I have found an OS independent tool on their site I’ll give it a try and if that’s not working I’ll try a clean install of windows.
