    Help with backup

    My laptop is stuck in a bootloop and i want to backup all my files so that i can reinstall windows or do a full factory reset. From what ive seen online you do this in the System Restore(F11) but when i go there it just sends me back to the bootloop. Is there another way of backing up my files or a way to fix this?

    Welcome to PCHF ehoy49,

    Please be careful of what you read online else it may end in disaster, a system restore is done from within Windows and would not normally affect too much of folks data but a factory restore (often done by pressing F10, F11 or F12 depending on the brand of computer) will wipe out all personal data on the storage device and leave them with just Windows on the drive.

    We could do with some further information;

    What version of Windows are you running,7,8.1 or 10.

    What is the brand and model name or number of the notebook.

        While I check the specs of the notebook;

        See if you are able to force the computer to start in the Windows Recovery Environment (RE) by starting up and shutting down the computer two or three times using the notebooks power button, please note that you need to shut down the computer after the MBs splash screen and just before Windows attempts to load, if successful you should then continue to the Troubleshooting options and then hopefully be able to use Safe Mode or System Restore etc.

          I’ve tried it a couple of times and it doesn’t seem to work. I’m not really sure what MBs splash screen mean, am I supposed to do it after the screen turns grey or when the hp logo appear or when text comes up saying β€œpreparing automatic reparation” ?

          And also when i shut down the computer, do i need to hold it for a specific amount of time (have been holding it for 10 seconds when i tried)

            Splash screen = the HP logo.

            You must power down the notebook before it gets to the automatic repair info, as soon as Windows attempts to load, power down.

            Just keep your finger on the power button long enough for the notebook to turn off, as soon as it turns off, power up and repeat until you get into the RE.

              Suddenly it started to beep with one long beep and 3 short beeps, this went on for a couple of times, and then the computer turned off. when I turned it on again I got a different blue screen with a different message and it is still in this state

              It says: The computer ran into a problem and needs to be restarted. We will restart it for you. If you want more information about the

                    Try a different approach, restart the notebook but this time while it is restarting continually tap the Esc key, post back and let us know how those steps go.

                        System Restore (F11) would normally be the suggested but you mention having tried F11 which resulted in the same boot loop, there may be an obvious answer to this but will need to ask the question first, have you ever created a system restore point on this computer.

                            As I suspected and explains why you got nowhere when you tried F11 previously, painful lesson to learn but it is best practice to always create a new system restore point before installing any new software or software updates.

                            Of those options all you can try is F2, other than that I can only suggest that you go back to the previous steps we were trying to get into the Windows RE, it is just a matter of timing to get it right, as soon as the HP logo disappears power down then back up again, repeat until successful, if it doesn`t work it points towards either Windows corruption or a problem with the device that Windows is on,
