Greetings - I have an Asus i5 laptop with a 750 GB Samsung Hard drive and Windows 10. The computer will get to the login screen, then freeze-up, if you wait about 10 minutes you can finally input your password and press enter and things will start to spin. Well I have waited 28 hours and have only had a black background and the taskbar load with the windows start button but other than that it is completely frozen.
I tried to be resourceful and boot into Safe Mode with Networking and download a few cleaners so I downloaded CCleaner but when I attempt to run it I get an error that I can not open this file, nor any other file type, .docx, .pptx, .txt etc.
I have tried to go back to a restore point, but the issue is still present. I disconnected the drive, and connected it via USB to a different computer and ran the ESET online virus scanner on ONLY the USB drive and it came back virus free, which leads me to believe that it may be just some junk/garbage processes running that are causing it not to load the desktop.
What should my next steps be?
