        Wasn’t what you said and what you did say suggested that you were thinking of opening up a PSU so as any responsible forum would do safety concerns were advised.

        How do you know that what you are feeling is fan activity, it could be a failed fan bearing and/or worse still a capacitor or transformer putting you on notice that it is about to go bang and likewise as I said at the end of my reply #5 post that is not how a PSU is confirmed as at least activating and how this is done was advised in my reply #5;

        In addition to the already advised, as a PSU puts out various voltages +3.3V, +5V and +12V it may appear that the PSU is working correctly but it is not, any significant drop of any output can prevent the system from booting up, the other scenario is a significant increase in the output which can be worse as it can fry one or more major components such as the MB, CPU, RAM, add on video card etc.

            Update, I unplugged everything as I was thinking I’d try swapping PSU, but since I have a lot of work the next 2 weeks, I didn’t want to chance the working PC. I decided to plug the power cables back into the motherboard and the SSD (with 1 8 GB memory stick) and tried to the power again. It turned on! After logging in, I powered down, this time adding back in 1 8 GB memory stick and the video card. It turned on again! After shutting down again, I added the last 16 GB/ 2 sticks of memory and my cable card cable and now it does not turn on anymore. I tried removing that last step, but I’m back to nothing.

            Also now, if I get signs of life when I switch the PSU on, the fans on the motherboard and video card move for the quick moment.

            Does that provide any useful info?

                Did you complete this task? If so, what was the outcome?

                    I didn’t do it yet. I have to get through about 5 days of video editing and I don’t want to screw up my working computer (just in case) until I’m done with that work. Also was waiting to see if there were other suggestions or ideas. I’ll follow up when I do or if another idea someone suggests works (unless everyone is leaning to the old PSU dying). Thanks!

                            The plan was that I would test the other PSU tomorrow, but while waiting to kill time today as videos were exporting, I decided to swap out the CR2032 battery on the motherboard (it did give me issues/reset the date/time when I cut power to the PC, so figured I’d put a new one in since it was all opened up). I decided to give the power up another try and it turned on. With all the memory and wires plugged in, it is working. I restarted a few times and put it to sleep and it is still turning on/ working.

                            Now does that battery really stop it from turning on or am I just running on luck right now? Thanks everyone for the help; hopefully I’m in good shape now.
