No access to BIOS with displayport cable

    Hi!
I recently experienced a problem that I can’t figure out. Suddenly my monitor turns black when trying to access BIOS. The PC boots normally into Windows 10, and everything is in order, graphics, games, etc…
But as soon I try to enter BIOS, my screen turns black, and nothing happens. I have had my computer for about 2 years, and everything has worked before. When I connect a HDMI cable, then everything is normal, and I can boot into BIOS without problems.
Tried to change to another graphicscard with same displayport cable, and then it works. I’ve also flashed bios up and downgrade, checked my RAM, updated drivers…everything.

    My specs are:
    MSI B550M pro-vdh wifi
    Ryzen 5 5600X
    4x8mb HyperX 3200 RAM
    Sapphire Radeon RX 6700XT 12gb
    MSI Optix MAG24R monitor

Can it be my GPU that is starting to die? This GPU is only 3-4 months old since I got a new one (warranty)

Not being pedantic and this for clarity, a computer has not booted until a user is in a fully working OS such as Windows while with some computers accessing the BIOS can be done via a restart in Windows.

Is the above how you have been accessing the BIOS or has it been from a cold boot and tapping one of the MBs hotkeys such as Del or F2 etc.

To the matter at hand, the issue loos to be with the DP on the present GPU but can we have some information regarding the most important of all computer component which, the PSU, brand, model name or number and the age if you will.

I’m sorry for my bad writings. I’m from Norway and my english is bad. When I have my RX 6700XT connected with the dp cable, then I can’t access BIOS at all. Not from cold boot and tapping the DEL button, or from restart in Windows. When connected with a HDMI cable, everything works. I used a old RTX 1060 GPU with the same DP cable, and then everything worked also; BIOS access by cold boot and restarting in Windows.

My PSU is a Corsair RM750x which was bought 6 months ago. My GPU is 3-4 months old. I got a new one from the shop because of a fault. The rest of the components; motherboard, ram and cpu was bought 2 years ago.

Using Windows 10 with all drivers up to date.

No worries and as said it was for clarity, others may read your thread and misinterpret it.

Definitely looks like a problem with the GPUs DP, is there anyone that you can ask if they will try the GPU in their PC, it is not an issue that can cause any harm to their PC, any PC must a have a minimum of a 650W PSU similar to the brand and spec as the one that you have.

I have now tried my GPU in another PC, with a Corsair TX 650w PSU. With the DP cable, there was no image at all. “No signal error”. But with HDMI everything was ok. I even tried the DP cable on another GPU, a Radeon RX580. Everything worked, so I guess that means the cable is in good condition.
So I concluded that my GPU is broken, and I will send it back to the webshop where I bought it.
But I don’t understand how everything works in Windows, with the DP cable, if something is broken? I played my games, RDR2 and Forza Horizon 5 today, with the same FPS as always.

No idea to be honest as I have not seen such an issue before, not ideal but by replicating the problem on another computer you have at least be able to determine that the card has an issue of some sort.

I have read about other people with same kind of problems, but often with new GPUS or motherboards, where the solution is a firmware update.

But thank you for your time and knowledge.

The only thing BIOS and GPU related that I have ever encountered was back in the days of Legacy GPUs not being able to work with the then newly released UEFI motherboards, as said, I have never seen this before and what looks to be going on is the DP not being recognised by the BIOS, this would normally suggest that there were no display port drivers mapped onto the BIOS chip, possible with one MB but most unlikely with two MBs.

You are welcome and we wish you better luck with any replacement GPU (y)

No further input from the OP so as per their above thread will marked and closed.
