There is currently no cmos battery in the board, it was removed a while ago because i would have to replace ot weekly and reinstall windows weekly

Reinstall Windows because the CMOS battery is dead, that’s a new one :unsure:

A dead CMOS battery just like no CMOS battery being there at all would not power the BIOS chip that stores the time, date and boot sequence etc, it has nothing to do with Windows whatsoever.

The only thing that a dead CMOS battery would cause is for all the MBs default factory settings to be restored meaning that the time, date and boot sequence would need to be reset after every cold boot.

Some CMOS batteries can last the duration that a person owns the PC, can last up to ten years and should never expire after only couple.

Without trying an out of the wrapper new CMOS you are wasting your time.

I mean im not sure what to tell you,. Its been working fine without a cmos battery for a long time.. when i had a battery in, it would not find the hard drive and i would have to fomat it and reinstall windows again. Might sound unexplainable or wierd but thats how its been.

I will find a new cmos battery but i expect wven more issues.. maybe the board is shorted or bunked up somewhere, idk

Real weird and something that I could not even hazard a guess as to the cause.

No battery or an expired battery causing issues with POST I can understand but neither causing the need for Windows to be reinstalled, the final check that the BIOS does during the power on self test is to look for a bootable OS on a storage device, with no battery to power the BIOS chip no boot sequence would be stored on the BIOS meaning that the end user would get a CMOS error on every cold boot, incorrect time and date and the BIOS not knowing where to look for a boot loader.

I have put a brand new out of the package, voltage checked with a multimeter and installed into the motherboard. Absolute zero change with same quick 2 beeps then 4 beeps.

I have tried absolutely every stick of ram in dozens and dozen of variations if not hundred(s) on the board. ( yes all in slot 2 as well) in every variation i can conjure and each time trying to boot.. also including switching gpus and slots aswell for each.

I pulled the water block and redid the thermal paste aswell

I also switched to my 850 supernova powersupply and tried that. Its brand new. Same issue ensues…

I have already tried different nvme drives, and not even a bios screen or anything.. it doesnt even attemp to put anything on my monitors. They turn on and immediately go to sleep/ low power mode..

Im guessing its got to be either the mother board, or cpu is no good.. i do not have another board to test or cpu..not going to spend $500+ just to test

from the sounds of the previous issue regarding the CMOS battery, and now this issue, you’d have to be putting money on the motherboard being at fault.
but yes, it could also be the processor, but they tend not to die. I think I have only seen maybe 3 in my experience that went pear shaped.

depending on the age, replacing the mobo may then force an upgrade of the processor and/or the memory.

so yeah - decision time!
new PC, or replace most of the high cost components.

I have wanted to upgrade but moneys been tight. Ill give the 2700x to my son. I was thinking a 5700x for an upgrade or 5800x and then idk what a good motherboard is for that, where i can use my current GPU until i can upgrade down the road…

Im a fan of big cases. Not sure what to do there and still be within reason with price

have you looked at retail shops for an off-the-shelf solution?
or online, like Dell, for a new PC. they allow quiet a bit of customisation as well.

The one that i have now is a full custom PC with liquid cooling. There isnt any place around me that has anything worth a darn. I also dont trust Dell or HP..

I think id like to upgrade what i have. It is time as my PC has currently shown me..

With what looks to me as a dead end, with what most likely is a malfunctioning motherboard. I 2ould guess the upgrade path is where i am headed.
