issue with 1660s

Recently i change my gpu from gtx 950 to gtx 1660 super and I encountered weird problem. New card only works on “prefer maximum performance” in Nvidia control panel. I can run any game or benchmark without any problem, but when im trying to change it to “adaptive/optimal power” mode, then run any game or 3d program, my screen goes for one random colour and pc freezes after few seconds. I tried to unistall drivers with DDU in safe mode, but nothing helps. Idle temperature on “prefer maximum performance” are 50-52, and on adaptive/optimal 37-39, so i wish i could change it to lower ones. Does anyone have any suggestions?
CPU: i5-4460
GPU: Zotac 1660s
PSU: Cheftec 700w (changed from 450w few days ago)
Motherboard: Gigabyte h81m-s2h (latest BIOS, but still from 2015)

When you uninstalled the drivers with DDU, did you reinstall the new ones before allowing the PC to reconnect to the internet?

That PSU is unknown to me, none of their units have 10 year warranties and that makes me inclined to believe they’re junk- I would look into returning that and purchasing a quality Corsair, EVGA, or Seasonic unit. Check this list to see what is worth purchasing and what isn’t - Gaming PCs should have at least an 80+ Gold PSU with an 8 year warranty on the low end, 10 is preferable.

Yes, I turned off my modem and tried few different drivers, one by one. I don’t think it’s a drivers issue, because when im looking at Event Viewer, i don’t see any errors related to display/drivers.
Chieftec is pretty popular, here in Europe. Its not a high end stuff, more like a budget version, but still has 80plus,AFC,OPP,OVP,SCP,SIP,UVP specs. Even appeared in A,B,C tiers on the list, which you linked.
Also i plugged in my old PSU (which is 450w corsair) and same error appeared only in Nvidia control panel optimal/adaptive mode.

I see.

You are absolutely right, I must have looked right past it- do you have a model #/name? 80 plus isn’t in itself worth anything for a unit with a dedicated GPU, you really want that Gold rating.

Let’s get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
[ol]
[li]In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.[/li][li]In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.[/li][li]Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.[/li][/ol]

Sorry for late response, but I had a busy day.

Link with instruction you post is expired, redirects to CClearner page or I’m missing something. Anyway I scanned PC with Speccy, Will txt file be enough, because I kinda don’t trust Speccy with gathering data like IP or serial numbers?
Also i checked RAM with TM5, CPU with cinebench r23 and I ran OCCT power profile.

Please rerun the speccy following this posting instruction. there is missing information in the attachment that is needed for a proper diagnosis

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

First issue I see is the drive is to small for windows to run properly and you are running out of space. Why we highly recommend a drive no smaller that 250 GB or more. This is because Windows requires on average 30% to 35% free space including 32 GB free space for updates, 7-10 GB reserved for future proofing on the C drive.

This is not including and limited to what the system uses for backups, swap page and hibernate files.

It’s default Nvidia program, which is installed with a drivers.

Could be that you ae using such a small drive for windows that is causing the issue due to the lack of space.

Some bottleneck and or file corruption is happening.

Could be the dated hardware that is in the system might not be fully combatable.

See what @Bruce and @Pyro have to say on it.

Could also attempt two things and see if they make a difference.

One
DISM and SFC

Two
Clean Boot

Before changing to new GPU, I never experienced this kind of error with same disks configuration. Even I plugged in my old GPU (GTX 950) and everything works fine. Im not a expert, but it looks like problem with undervolting. Error appears only in first few seconds of starting-up games/apps from optimal/adaptive mode setup. When GPU already works on high speed (prefer maximum performance mode) while idle, launching any app/game goes smooth. Also I tested both modes in 3DMark and Furmark benchmarks. In optimal/adaptive mode 3DMark test failed after first intro. Furmark works for 5min, but when i tried to turn off “donut” by hitting space, same error appeared.
One
DISM and SFC

I already tried that. Few corrupted files were fixed, but without any results. Also i tried apps like TM5 for RAM check, Cinebench for CPU test and OCCT for power profile. No errors were found.
Two
Clean Boot

I will look into it, when I have more free time.

I also add GPU-Z reults, both while idle (optimal/adaptive mode and prefer maximum power mode)

Let’s get a baseline, we’ve gone through a decent amount at this point and I think it would be good to make sure we didn’t miss any of the basics.

This is my laundry list, it’s a good starting point for troubleshooting and should get you an idea what’s going on:
1. Try running the following programs, also try to keep at least 25-30% of your disks as free space.

Run Disk Cleanup (check all the boxes) this will delete things such as your recycling bin, so make sure you don’t have any files you want to keep.

Run Defragment and Optimize Drives, run this on your drives.

These will free up some space, but you may need to relocate/delete files to reach the suggested free space.
1. Disable any overclocking or changes to power/performance settings

Undo any overclocking you may have done (if any)

Settings > System > Power and sleep > Additional power settings
Make sure your power plan is set to balanced, high performance/ultimate performance is only beneficial on gaming laptops where it needs that extra boost.
1. Check for Operating System Corruption

Right click on the Windows logo in the bottom left and select Windows Powershell (Admin)
Run these three commands separately:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

These will take a while to run, do not close out of Powershell while they are running, if one fails then move onto the next and then loop back around.

Note: It doesn’t hurt to make a system backup before you make all these changes, save any important files of folders. While these changes shouldn’t cause any issues, better to be safe than sorry.
1. Unplug unnecessary devices.

If you have a gamepad, extra monitor, external hard drive/flash drive, or anything that is not essential to using the computer plugged in, unplug it.

Once you have completed all of these tasks, restart it (using the restart option in the power menu) and re-test.
