I’m running a p c with Linux and windows dual boot on separate drives. I can boot and single beep from post indicating all is well. However if I do a restart from either system the post gives one long and 3 shot beeps and fails to boot.
post problem only on reset

depending on your BIOS version, 1 long 3 short beeps usually points to memory or video card issues.
see here; https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#ami
let’s get your PC specs.
get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into a post.
One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so please also include the make/model of the PSU. -

power supply is a 450 watt LPKS(-25 salvaged from I don’t know where. serial number0804001381, I don’t know if any of that makes any sense.
Windows did an update and restart. I got the short beep from post to indicate o k followed immediatley by 1x long 3 x shortComment

After further investigation resetting from either operating system produces one short beep followed after a brief interval with 1 x long 3 x short. Screen then goes blank and says no signal. If I execute a crti+alt+del then the system reboots correctly.Originally posted by joezHi thanks for your reply. My P C spec is as below

it’ll be a hardware issue.
take out the 3 memory sticks and clean their circuit board, contacts and motherboard slots using a soft bristle brush.
there are mixed sticks in that bunch, so only reseat the ones that were in slot 3 and 4, as they seem to be the same.
also, see if there is a firmware update to your 6 year old BIOS.
and disconnect the second SSD, only leaving the C:\ drive connected.Comment

O K took out Linux disk and booted with only Windows 10. No problem rebooting. Took out windows disk and booted as Linux P C. No problem rebooting. So problem seemed to be when dual booting. Eventually narrowed to down and found disabling fast boot in both windows and Bios fixed the problem. Thanks for all your help. So nice to meet someone who is so thoughtful of others.Originally posted by Bruceit’ll be a hardware issue.
