M.2 Not showing up

Recently I got a XPG Spectrix S40G M.2 for my pc. I am using a Asus ROG B450-F Motherboard and running Windows 11 Home if that helps. It never showed up in disk management or the BIOS except once, I initialized it and it hasn’t showed back up since. I tried re-enabling it in the BIOS and swapping it to a different M.2 slot on the motherboard but still nothing. I’m trying to reinstall Windows 11 onto it once it starts working. Help is greatly appreciated.

Does the drive show under diskpart?
Right click Start>Terminal with admin & enter:
diskpart
list disk
If it does show then you can use the clean command after list disk
Once cleaned go to disk management & it should show as requiring initialisation or formatting.
If at any time this fails then the drive is faulty.

It didn’t show up in Diskpart the last time I checked, I don’t think it would have gone bad after working once. Could it be that Windows 11 isn’t detecting it because of UEFI?

Drives can go bad after 1 use & can even arrive bad. Depending on where you purchased some unscrupulous sellers could send out returned drives as new.
Can you test the drive in another/non UEFI PC?

I got it for a Christmas gift from my grandparents. And the link I sent them to get it from was Newegg. I can try it in my other computer and I’ll update you with the results

I suspect the drive may be from a third party seller. Was the drive shipped by Newegg or a different seller?
I look forward to the update.

I wasn’t able to find the seller information but I found that my other pc doesn’t have a M.2 slot so I downgraded to Windows 10 on my main one and the M.2 is now showing up. I’m tempted to reinstall Windows 11 onto the M.2 instead of 10 now but I don’t want it to no boot afterwards, is there a way around this or should I stick with 10 for now?

lets get a speccy report to get the correct information.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Your BIOS Is out of date there is one that is listed that states. Have to make sure that is the correct motherboard other wise you will have an expensive door stop.
ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING BIOS 4502
Support Windows 11 by default, no settings changes required in the UEFI BIOS.

Hope this helps.

Then suggest that you update the BIOS

Some information to read through

You may want to contast ASUS to see if you have to preform the BIOS updates in order and or if you can just install the latest.

I successfully updated the BIOS to 4602
