Hi everyone and thanks for your help.
I have been working on this for over a day now…
I opened my tower case to inspect my GA-Z170-HD3 MB for a m.2 slot to upgrade my ssd.
I found the slot, then decided to clean out some dust while I was there… this is where the problems started.
I used (now regrettably) the end of a plastic vacuum to suck up some of the dust that I cleaned out of the pc case. (I definately did not notice any static electricity come off)
I took off the cpu fan, the top 2 general fans, wiped the dust then put them back on and turned on my pc.
At first it was fine, then youtube started to stall.. then alot.. i restarted my pc, it became progressively slower, so I restarted it again.
it took forever to boot, then got stuck in a cycle where the fans would start (both general fans and cpu fan) but the pc would not turn
on, it would turn off then try again to turn on 1 second later.
After doing some research I thought it could be the power supply, so I did the paperclip test, it passed - it powered both general fans.
I tried the whole pc again.. This time everything turns on except the cpu fan. - The motherboard lights up orange and steady,
Everything seems to run except the system fan. the computer does not beep once on startup (like it normally does),
it goes for about 1 minute then beeps 5 times, shuts down and tries again, repeat and repeat.
It therefore seems to me that the issue is either the psu, cpu fan, cpu or motherboard.
I am trying to think of ways I can narrow the search for the damaged piece down better before buying and testing each piece listed above.
In order of suspicion, I Guess it would be cpu fan 1, cpu 2, power supply 3, motherboard 4.
Because the motherboard lights up, and the cpu fan does not go at all. Does the cpu need the cpu fan to be spinning for the cpu to operate?
I had the vacuum closest to the cpu fan, though they may not matter.
I have a good pc with good parts and want to salvage as much as possible. It wasn’t cheap!
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 MB
Intel core I7 6700K
Corsair 550w TX550M 80 Plus gold PSU
Deepcool Maelstrom 120t blue led intel amd cpu cooler
Samsung ssd 250gb
4 X DDR4 8gb hyperfury memory sticks
Any suggestions appreciated. thank you.
