Dell 660 tower. Rebuilt 1 year ago with new ssd and doubled the ram. It has Intel i5. it was working fine. 10 to 15 second start up. Friday I was booting into bios to record the correct settings when the screen went black. Shut it down and rebooted it. When the Dell logo appeared the wheel started turning but it took 10 minutes and then the login screen finally appeared. It functions just as fast when I’m in it but still super slow start up. Before the bios boot try I had changed no software settings. I tested the ssd in another computer and it’s ok. Swapped the ram. No change. I checked the startup page and turned fast startup off and then tried with it back on. Nothing. Startup apps are delayed. I unplugged all unnecessary usb accessories. Nothing. Help!

When was the last time you changes the CMOS battery?

What about dust in the system?

Can you access BIOS or is it still having issue there?

Are the date and time correct in the BIOS and Windows?

At present it’s booting the way it’s supposed to. I unplugged the P5 connector on the data cable connected to the ssd and plugged the P3 connector in.

Here’s where my computer skills end ( because I’m 65). I see in BIOS my Samsung ssd is not on the boot list. I know it’s supposed to be there. No message that it’s not being recognized. It’s just not there. The first boot is “windows boot manager” and as I said earlier it’s booting normally. For now. Btw this is a 2013 Dell 660.

With the release of UEFI BIOS that is normal due to the secure boot function.

From the sounds of it you have it working could also be if putting the cable back it may still work fine. Some times reseating cables like that fixes the issue.

Leave the thread open for a few days see how things get along.

I did send you the report from speccy with the url. Above I mentioned that my Samsung ssd doesnt show in the boot list.

It worked fine until last week when my current proplem occured. In the old tower bios listed the Samsung ssd as first boot, But if its normal for it to be windows boot manager as first boot that’s fine with me.

Is due to the UEFI BIOS feature called SECURE BOOT which is why you no longer see the drive.
No since they have done it that way have not like it ither.

I havent had a chance to get back to my problem. It’s back again. Long delay booting after the Windows logo page. I’m chasing my tail because I’m not familar with this indepth problem. I can say nothing has worked to fix it except when I switched the data plugs on the SSD It was ok briefly. I’m going to go over things again because I’m lost. I upgraded the SSD and upped the ram to 8 gb several months ago. It worked fine until I tried to boot into bios last week. This was the first time I tried booting to bios since the upgrade. And now I see when I choose restart it doesn’t restart. Shutdown works perfectly. SSD worked fine when I tested it in another pc. Any other suggestions?

Like you stated the system is from 2013 and there could be other things that are going on.

There thermal paste may need to be replaced.

You can also try 1 stick of ram in each on the slots to see hot the system preforms this will tell us if one of them is bad.

Tried clean boot but as I said Restart in not restarting. It loads to the dell screen and goes no further. So Instead I tried shutdown but when it tries to start it still gets stuck at the Dell logo page with the loading wheel spinning. When it finally loads and I log in all the services are enabled. Probably because I couldn’t do a restaret and did a shutdown instead. Is that correct?
