Hi all, I’m new here and I really don’t know why… I should have joined much sooner…
Anyways, I have a little issue with this old girl… Until recently all was fine, now that I have tried everything I can think of, I’m looking for other ideas…
So the machine came with 8GB RAM installed (2x4GB), turned on one morning, and got the sweet sound of 5 beeps… OK, memory issue hopefully…
Yes it was, I removed the offending stick of RAM and proceeded to purchase another stick… Exactly the same brand size and everything…
It went well for a week or 2, then the new stick died too… I ran a full intensive diagnostic on the system, everything passed, so I couldn’t figure out why!?!
So next step, I purchased 2x4GB sticks, figured I would just renew it completely, to be sure they did match correctly… But, that didn’t work, as I got the 5 beeps again, with both sticks… Thinking them to be faulty, I returned them for replacements… Guess what? YUP, exactly the same issue…
So I am down to this one stick of 4GB, which is running ok, it allowed me to add another with it, but this wont be detected by the BIOS…
My next step, I completely stripped the whole machine down and cleaned it up… It looks like a brand new machine again, but for one little flaw…
I can STILL only use that one stick of 4GB RAM, but now it won’t allow me to add any more… I have completed a FULL system diagnostic, ALL PASSED…
I have checked the other RAM in another machine (same model), they all worked just fine, so there is no issue there…
So I’m on my knees now, asking my fellow tech-heads… What am I missing? ANY IDEAS??
