    Monitor isn't recognized but works and there's no PnP Monitor driver

    Soo hello guys, I’ve a problem where my monitor is working fine and all but the pc can’t recognize it nor is there even a plug and play monitor driver(or the non-pnp variant)

    This windows hasn’t recognized my monitor for a long time but it always had the plug and play monitor driver, until,suddenly happened a while ago when I restarted my pc and I didn’t know why but i found that the starting screen is very low res so was the bios which had changed(like the options in it and how it looks changed slightly) and the pc no longer had plug and play monitor it rather said in resolution, “Display device on: DVI”.
    This is very frustrating cause my pc can’t recognize my monitor’s resolutions or aspect ratio and it disabled multiple options in nvidia control panel and continues to annoy me.

    I tried all types of fixes like updating bios, updating graphics card, tried to update and manually download my monitor’s driver(they’re for vista x64 x32) but couldn’t install them not even over pnp monitor cause it said they were latest, deleted plug and play monitor drivers which did nothing cause pc said they were unplugged, I tried changing bios settings and restoring them to default, I did sfc /scannow, I installed latest pc drivers earlier, I deleted old graphics cards drivers, tried to stop secure boot but since my bios changed, it was no longer there and I couldn’t do legacy boot or anything cause there were no options, manually installing plug and play monitors again but I couldn’t

    all in all, I wish I really could fix this, I wish if my pc can recognize the monitor itself but at least I want plug and play monitor to be identified

    PC is HP Compaq 8200 Elite small form factor
    My graphics card is GT 1030 2gb ddr5
    My bios is HP bios 00.02.33(latest)
    windows 7 sp 1 x64

      Hello virtuo,

      Can i first of all mention that drivers for monitors are a thing of the past and you do not need to install them separately and haven’t had to since Windows XP. and CRT monitors, if you are having resolution problems the issue is with the GPU drivers

      The list of HP drivers here does not list any for the GPU that you have, have you fitted the GT 1030 yourself.

          What is the make and model of the power supply?

          That system usually came with a 240 Watt power supply.

          The GT 1030 card requires a 300 watt minimal power supply to run.

                      Okay thanks a lot for unlocking it, anyways as I was saying, yes I fitted the GT 1030 myself after making sure my power supply, HP-D3201E0(Which I googled but I couldn’t find about a lot), it had maximum supply of 320 watt.

                      Anyways wanted to note that the problem with the monitor not being recognized by the pc at all had started before getting the GT 1030 when I had AMD Radeon HD 5450, except there were plug and play monitor drivers which the pc recognized but the problem it gave me wrong resolutions(my monitor’s maximum is 1280 x 1024 with 70 hertz, this gives me 1920 x 1080 with hertz 100+) that don’t work with the monitor, I don’t remember when was the first time my windows worked on plug and play drivers and couldn’t regonize my DELL monitor but it was a very long time ago(more than 1-2 years), until I got my GT 1030 which worked normally with plug and play except after about a week or two, the plug and play drivers suddenly out of nowhere(I don’t remember installing or changing any drivers or doing anything) disappeared and my pc no longer could recognize there was ANY monitors but it knew there was a monitor plugged into DVI-D(the plug and play drivers were acting as if the monitor was unplugged).

                      My drivers for the graphics card are fully updated and for the monitor, they can’t be installed cause they’re pretty old and only for vista and XP. I don’t remember installing monitor’s drivers in the past(more than 2-3 years ago) but I surely remember my pc always recognizing it.

                          I wouldn`t trust that PSU to be able to produce anywhere near 320W tbh as the numbers on the PSU label do not add up, 256W if you are lucky but most likely nearer 200W.

                          Download and run DriverView which you can get from here

                          Save the results to text and attach to your next reply for us if you will.

                              I’m not really sure tbh, it’s written on the label “MAXIMUM POWER SHALL NOT EXCEED 320W” and some chinese lines later on with 320W in between.

                                  No need for us to look at the list of drivers as we can see that you have multiple issues going on with the amount of free storage space on the C: partition being the most critical.

                                  Rather than us have to check I prefer to be direct and ask if the version of Windows 7 on this computer is legitimate, the lack of Windows updates suggest that it may not be.

                                  Troubleshooting computer problems is a waste of time when it is known that Windows is out of date as any one of a number of the missing hot fixes could be the solution to any problem that you may be having.

                                  For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

                                  Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

                                      I seriously don’t think that’s the problem at all because nothing as it WAS working and it SUDDENLY stopped working(my c had even had much less storage) and I haven’t touched or did anything nearby updates thus they’re quite obviously not related. I’ve always used most of my c free storage and I never did windows update because they always hindered my pc in a way or another and I downloaded them when required. But since you’re the expert here, I will trust what you’re saying and give it a shot and I will post here when I’ve free 20 to 25% so give me like till tomorrow.
