what have you tried to format it via?
have you initialised the drive yet - click the Start icon, start typing disk, click Create and format hard disk partitions.
do you see the new drive listed?
New drives are usually pre-formatted & ready to work. Was it purchased from a PC store or pre-owned/new to you?
Try cleaning the drive in diskpart.
Open powershell with admin & enter:
Diskpart
list disk
Select disk X (where x is the hard drive with problems)
clean
exit
Now go to disk management & it should ask you to initialise the drive, do this, then you’ll be able to format it.
Is it an internal or external HD?
If external try disconnecting it & reconnecting it.
If you need to recover the files then you can try Macrium Reflect & hopefully it’ll allow you to create an image of the drive.
Tbh I suspect it may be faulty.
Was it purchased from WD & fulfilled by Amazon or a third party seller?
It is an internal HD.
I disconnected the power suply to my PC then plugged it back in and it has found it again with all the files on, however it is still making noises which my other HD isn’t which is also a WD Blue but a 1TB.
It was purchased from Storage Kings and fulfilled by Amazon
I would recover all the files, clean the drive & send it back as faulty.
It may have been a return which the seller has repackaged & sent out again as new or is just faulty & the seller didn’t know about it.
