Reckon we might need to swap in a known good PSU for testing purposes but worth mentioning is that having your hardware running so hot over a period of time may have damaged one or more items of hardware.

Are you getting the freezes/lock ups when not connected to the internet.

Lets see what if anything is hogging the CPU usage.

Download Process Explorer which you can obtain from here

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run as Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK

Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header to arrange things by CPU usage, this will put the services with the highest CPU usage at the top of the log.

Which points towards your internet connection being involved in some way, you may recall that in my reply #31 I explained why we use Valley to test GPUs when the computer is not online.

Can you run Process Explorer again but this time use the steps that I previously provided for grabbing and uploading screenshots, the way that you are doing it means that we cannot see all of the information that we need to.

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start…all programs…accessories…paint…left click in the white area …press CTRL + V…click on file…click on save…save it to your desktop…name it something related to the screen your capturing… BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG …otherwise it may be to big to upload… after typing in any response you have… click on Upload a File to add the screenshot.

Thats better, there is nothing hogging CPU resources according looking at your latest screenshot, the higher the system idle and the lower the CPU usage figure the better and 3.55% is real good.

What you can try, connect to the internet while you have Process Explorer running and see if the CPU usage spikes, once you have done this and made a note of the outcome, close PE, open Task Manager, connect to the internet check to see if the RAM or CPU usage spikes in Task Manager.

In Process Explorer, without internet it was typically 2.5-3.3% cpu usage. When I turned on internet the largest spike I saw was ~10%, it kept the same low at about 2.5%. In task manager without internet it was 2-4% cpu usage with 3.8 GB of ram used. When I connected internet the largest spike I saw was 19% and ram went up to 3.9 GB. For each of these when I disabled or enabled internet the cpu spiked up to around 15% before settling down.

Is there a second benefit to that guide other than just increasing my speed? I’m getting 18 mbps more download than is being paid for at the highest peak.

Only problems I had was that Ccleaner didn’t have a monitoring tab and one of the cmd commands said it failed to refresh something. But I went through all the steps.

If you can recall any particular online game etc that caused the stutter try repeating the same PE and Task Manager checks as in my reply #50 if you will.

It’s happened with everything I do, only thing that stays the same is I always have chrome open pretty much no matter what I’m doing.
